iPhone 12 Pro Max camera issues

Has anyone got issues with your iPhone 12 Pro Max camera ? See below that I have on mine:

1) when making video on main 1x sensor and only at 4k 60fps, the screen is suffering from significant flickering. This is not happening on any other resolutions and frame rates. I have compared to my old Xs and Xr with same settings, same scenarios and this issue is not present at all. I have also tried changing shutter speed manually to 1/120 on Filmic Pro, as normally this would resolve the issue, however no matter how I set settings manually flickering is present at all settings, when recording 4k 60fps. I have tried resetting the phone, force restarting, with no luck. I am on 14.2. I even tried using every possible settings scenario on both display and camera settings and still not possible to eliminate the issue :(

2) Ultra wide lens 0.5x is suffering from lags, stuttering when on 4k 60fps. When you touch screen to get auto exposure square and focus point, lag and stuttering is heavily present. The moment exposure and focus point disappears all is back to normal. Again this is only happening when on 4k 60fps and in all lightning conditions. I have tried all above and absolutely all settings but no luck with getting this resolved.

it would be good to see if anyone has come across these issues and managed to fix anyhow. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Happy to share my OneDrive link, so you can see the videos with these issues.

I have been doing intensive research and testing and come to an conclusion that it is the camera app and code/algorithm behind that is causing this issue. So in other words hoping this is software related.

I have downloaded myself paid app called ProCamera and was playing around with manual settings. When I set shutter speed to 1/100 the flickering has disappeared completely. To the point that my issue number 2) was also not present in ProCamera app for me.

it would be interesting to get other user’s thoughts and opinions about this.

I also face the close up focus problem and the green shadows of the light sources during low light (especially during filming). My S20 does not have these problems 😔 I am also afraid these are hardware problems. For focus the bigger sensor and for shadows the internal anti refrection of the lens. 😢

Yesterday I went to the Genius bar, and the technician told me that it was normal that there should be in those conditions because it was the light reflected on the lens, and he adds that the point could be removed from post-production.😑

The S20 does have those same issues; that's not a green UFO just above the roof line:

It's not a hardware issue, it's more of a hardware limitation of smartphone cameras and tiny lenses.

This will happen when you have such an intense light source directly opposite the camera.

If instead you moved slightly to put the window more off to one side, you likely wouldn't experience this issue.

If you live somewhere the power frequency is 50 Hz this will happen as LED and fluorescent lights flicker at a rate that is incompatible with 60 FPS video.

30 FPS may work by just dumb luck, a better choice in iOS 14.3 and later may be 25 FPS, enabled through the new settings within:

Settings -> Camera -> Record Video -> Show PAL Formats

Solution guys,

Settings - Camera - Automatic fps OFF.

that should solve it.

the flickering you all are experiencing is caused by the software automatically trying to lower the fps (when recording in 60fps) in low light situations, which should lead to a more stable video. Clearly not the case. So just turn the automatic fps off, so that even when recording inside, your video will keep recording at the chosen frame rate.

That focus is happening on the 1x lens for me too and it is so disappointing as I use my camera everyday. I hope they fix it ASAP

Same here! I use my phone camera to shoot clothing that I sell online. I could get great pics with my 11 pro max but my 12 pro max will not focus when close up. Disappointing!

Same problem here. When I'm recording in 4K the video is suffering from lags and also the flickering problem is happening on my 12 Pro. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Yeah... the different between the PAL and NTSC format causes the problem. I have also downloaded the app and the 4K video doesn’t flicker when I switch from 60 FPS to 50 FPS.
