iMessage not working on iPhone 12 pro max

Ok - found my issue- within Messages in Settings there is a setting for accepting iMessage through iCloud acct and phone numbers.....my phone number was not active.

I presume when my phone got activated my cell phone number was not activated within Settings>Messages>Send & Receive

note - we bought the phone outright from Apple with set up at a later date which involved calling AT&T to turn on.

all is well now

Upgrade to the 12 Pro Max - love the phone but.... iMessage not working properly. Photos are in each message if i scroll back up through the message but no longer appear in the info area in iMessage. Oddly, they imported for some people and not for others.

Also, many contacts did not import while most did - even though I did full back up prior to transferring to my new phone.

Very frustrating - every time I change my phone, some data is lost but no way to know cause each time - usually contacts or message data. What is the point of the back-up if all the data doesnt come through?

Its Christmas Day and iMessages is still activating. Waited 24hours and then said "unable to activate" well I think it did, got PO and was going to thro it at the wall. Any ideas ? What about a restore to factory settings again? Any advice would be be appreciated. Cheers and Merry Christmas

I have changed the iPhone 12 pro Max 2 times and still have many issues. iMessages many time don't work specially when selecting a picture and sending it. many time it will select the picture but when you go to send in the iMessage the picture is no longer there, so you have to go back and select again. Many times it will select a random picture in addition to the ones you selected, really weird. Many other apps are not working on iPhone 12 Pro max which work fine on iPhone 12 pro. Like Ring App, Next-door app and many other apps. The iOS14 is most horrible upgrade I have ever experienced in conjunctions with iPhone 12 Pro max. iOS 14 was great on my old iPhone X not a single issue.

I’m having same issue been trying to get iMessages to work since Christmas Day have done everything been onto Apple chat 4 times and had a 4 hour call with Apple and still nothing I’m at a loss what to do

Same! I’m waiting and hoping tomorrow or activates but it’s definitely frustrating 😬

My iMessage is working now

as it turns out though I’m not receiving calls tho hahah!

I did swap to a new carrier so they told me it may take a while for everything to work smooth.

Even after OS update we still get text messages - not iMessages

btw this has been an issue since around 830am PT when the phone was activated

Did you have to reboot the phone at all? Or did it just ‘spontaneously’ flip to iMessage?
