When using AirPods, people around me can hear my music even though I do not have my volume on full
I have had my AirPods for about 3-4 months now and whenever I put them in, people around me can hear my music. I do not have my volume on full it is normally half way yet people around me can still hear my music clearly. I’ve tested it and the sound is coming from the speaker of the bit that doesn’t go in your ear. Is there any way of fixing the problem?

You mention outward-facing speaker. To verify do you have the AirPods Pro? If so, see if this is related to Active Noice Cancellation using the steps from the following link:

If these are not AirPods Pro, try resetting your AirPods and see if this helps with the issue:

These are not AirPod Pros. They are v1 AirPods. I have reset them and verified they are using the most recent firmware.
I don't have any idea how it would be possible, but there is clearly sound coming from the wrong hole in the AirPod. Wearing them normally results in a very muffled sound while those around me think I am damaging my ears because they can hear the sound so well. When I remove the Airpod (just the right one is doing this) and turn it so the other hole is facing my ear, the sound is very loud and clear.

Based off that info, you may want to make sure your AirPods are completely clean using the steps in the following link. Sometimes they can get clogged or blocked and that could be contributing to this:

Thanks. I have looked and there is nothing to clean on the exterior of the airpod or on the mesh.
