iPhone 12 Pro Max touch screen not working

iPhone 12 Pro Max, unresponsive screen on my phone when it’s on a flat surface, it doesn’t respond to my thumb, cannot unlock it and it doesn’t work in certain apps. My other fingers seem to work fine. Once I hold the phone in my hands it works properly

Not positive, but I believe 14.2.1 started my unresponsive screen issue. I first noticed it when unable to select specific dates in Google Calendar. Then just earlier this evening I struggled to type a simple text message. It seems the unresponsiveness for me is primarily towards the bottom of the screen. After a normal reboot the issue went away. My phone has been doing it while being help upright. 12 Pro Max with Otterbox Defender screen-less edition case

I have been having the same problems as well. It is intermittent where you go to type and it just wont work or it will press the key to the left or the right. I was in the bank today and I just wanted to open an email to get some info and I couldn't even open an email! Apple has replaced the phone once already and the replacement they sent is doing the exact same thing! They are sending me a third phone so hopefully they get it figured out. I'm getting really frustrated because I lose almost a full day of my time everytime this happens between troubleshooting with apple, getting the replacement shipped, scheduling the pickup then restoring the phone data. This may be the last iPhone I buy. It seems like apple pushed the development through too fast and didn't do proper testing. Very disappointing when you pay a premium price you should receive a premium product that functions as advertised. I guarantee apple will not compensate me for the 3 days of my time now lost due this recurring problem.

i had this issue with ipad pro when it was first released then it got sorted on ipad os update.

I still have same issue with iphone 12 pro. some places it recognise my touch and some places i tap 6-10 times and then it recognises. But when connected to charger it works like charm. I guess there is some software issue which apple needs to fix in further ios update.

I use a folio style case on an iPhone 12pro max everyday I cannot answer calls or use certain areas of the screen without turning off and on again only to have it occur again minutes later.

This is the most frustrating phone ever from Apple fix it or just inform everyone it cannot be fixed and they are free to return their phones . Not what I expect from a $1400.00 phone !

My iPhone 12 Promax became unresponsive to touch screen about a month ago. I tried to restart but it wouldn’t restart as I couldn’t swipe it. I tried to hard restart and it called 911 and sent sos messages. I called apple and they had me try hard restart again a different way to no avail. It finally became response while we were trying to trouble shoot. Agent had me reset settings. The next day I worked on resetting settings to what they were but this time I was having keychain problems. My phone asked for my password and wouldn’t take it! Called apple again and they had me factory reset my phone and restore it. I lost some data but have been able to use phone without trouble until today. Today it froze in an app (last time it was in a textmessage when it happened). Tried to restart normal way and slide to restart wouldn’t let me slide it. I was scared to hard restart due to 911 calling last time. I tried leaving phone alone for about 30 minutes. Tried to restart by pushing top side button then lower side button then holding right side button. It didn’t restart my phone but siri responded and I asked her to restart my phone. It seems fine again but I am seriously worried about this phone having had so many problems with the most expensive iPhone I’ve ever had. Is this a hardware problem or iOS problem?

same problem developed for me about 4 months after getting the new iPhone 12 Pro Max. Certain keys on keyboard while texting would not work and I would hit an icon and it would think I touched some other icon, but this was only intermittent so I wasn’t sure if hardware or software failure. I took to Apple Store Genius Bar and they diagnosed multitouch screen failure and replaced the screen free of charge.

Same issue and I have the Commonder Otterbox screenless case. It is getting so back that I can not even have a response to reboot my phone! At what point is Apple going to correct this! I noticed it has become worse since last Apple update but. It sure if it is just a coincidence. I am really angry as I am disabled and am paying for the Max as I am visually impaired but not blind.

Update: Originally my iPhone Pro Max was diagnosed with multitouch failure, and they replaced the screen free of charge (under warranty). The identical problem recurred a day later. I took it back to Genius Bar and they ran the diagnostics and it immediately failed Multitouch Feature AGAIN. Apparently, not all multitouch functionality is contained solely in the screen - there are some additional advanced motherboard integrations that may have failed in my case. At any rate, Apple replaced the entire phone and it works perfectly now. No problems. It's definitely not a software issue. I recommend bringing the phone in to Apple Genius Bar and having diagnostics run on it.
