Anyone elses Iphone 12 Pro max rear camera appearing black in the Camera App ? Also the flashlight has stopped working which makes me suspicious, front camera seems fine, it hasn't been dropped or anything and everything worked fine for a couple days until this afternoon. Wondering if I'm maybe missing some weird setting with the new camera features that is making everything black or disables the camera module ?

No one wanted to believe a brand new phone wasn’t working either, they all wanted to think it was user error, if you have a store close enough from wherever you bought it , I’d try to get it swapped for a new one asap. Over the phone they all tried to get me to send it in for repair under warranty. If you get on with AppleCare they can remotely run a hardware diagnostic to definitively test the rear module.
Same with me my iPhone 12 Pro back camera just stopped working I’ve had the phone less than a week and the back camera is completely black front camera works fine
the Same thing happened to me . I had to order a new one and the new one won’t let me use the back camera. It has to be something wrong with the 12 in general.
im having the same problem but it seems to be with the flash on when I try to record a video

Woke up and used my camera to find that my screen was black. The phone was never dropped. Can I get warranty for that?
Yes. Mine started acting over the weekend. I got a replacement yesterday & literally the same issue now with the replacement
It seems a common problem but my replacement has lasted months now, plus I’ve never seen anyone have it happen 3 times 😂

Thanks. I don’t want a “refurbished” replacement that also doesn’t work. I see that complaint posted as well. For that price, I should get a brand new replacement.

Final Resolution: After a few hours on the phone with Verizon, Applecare remotely ran a hardware diagnositic that verified the Rear camera module was faulty , got lucky and local Verizon store had just gotten a shipment so they exchanged for a new identical one. Took 4 days of back and forth with various support mechanisms.
Thank you for posting this. I had the same problem Wednesday. I contacted Apple support with a link to this post, and told them I would like them to run a hardware diagnostic. Hardware on my camera module was faulty. Unfortunately, they would not replace the phone until I followed their "troubleshooting" steps, which by the end rendered my phone completely non-functional (got stuck in recovery mode). After 4 hours with different support people, I checked and realized my phone was still within the return window (wish someone in support would have checked that before 4 hours had elapsed, considering I said numerous times the age of my phone and that I wanted my phone replaced). I returned the first phone and bought an identical phone. It was super annoying and extremely time consuming, but I'm glad you posted this original question, and the subsequent resolution so I knew how to handle the situation!
It's a brand new phone, take it to your closest Apple Store and get a replacement.
No issues with my 12 Pro Max at all.
