Cannot connect printer after Big Sur update

Couple of days ago I updated my MacBook Air with macOS Big Sur. After that my printer Epson L220 stopped working. Now I'm trying to add this printer via USB but getting the message: 'An error occurred while trying to add the selected device.successful-ok-ignored-or-substituted-attributes'.

Also tried Epson Connect Printer Setup but it cannot find the printer at all.

Don't know what to do now.

Hello Alfredalsie,

Have you checked whether a new XP-220 driver download for Big Sur is available?

If there is a problem with USB, you may want to try using a network (Wi-Fi) connection to a router instead.

Also, try resetting the printing system and re-adding the printer.

Hi Jan,

IT WOOOOOOOOOORKED :) !!!!!!!

Thanks so much!!

After uninstalling and installing the EU software updater 3x and it still dit not work, I was so frustrated.

I am from Germany and bought the printer many moons ago here too so I figured it has to be the EU software updater etc..

So last but not least i tried the US printer driver and after installing, it immediately worked :)

YOU JUST MADE MY DAY!!! THANKS SO MUCH JAN :)

Cheers from Berlin

ok thanks again Jan ... the Epson is now on the list and printing well. I did reset the Mac printing system - right click /reset printers and it deleted the epson. went through the + printer and it found the Epson again. not the Oki.

The oki is an MC362DN and looking on the actual printer itself it says Air Print enabled. when I google latest firmware it says if the model is not listed its not supported and mine is not on the list.

looking through the options on the actual machine I found the scan destination to be 1 IP address, the Network another IP address and then there is a Gateway address as well (different to both of these) .... do I need to do anything with these ?

the IP address on my Mac for the network matches the number for the scan destination (on the machine).

sorry, after awhile so many things are done, downloaded, redone it gets confusing PLUS the real technicalities get away from me. appreciate your help (as always)

Hello,

You may want to try resetting the printing system and re-adding the printer.

Unless the operating system automatically suggests something suitable, drivers can be found here (I assume that it is the XP-235):

https://www.epson.eu/support?productID=15954&language=en&os=38#drivers_and_manuals

https://www.epson.com.au/products/multifunctional/ExpressionHomeXP-235.asp

-> Downloads tab -> Drivers and Downloads (select your operating system)

Hello again,

You could perhaps just try a printing system reset, and re-adding the printers. Would the operating system suggest suitable drivers to use?

The Epson R3000 links in my earlier message (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252052200?answerId=254250849022#254250849022) appear to have the same drivers as before.

For the OKI MC362, you may want to check https://www.oki.com/eu/printing/support/drivers-and-utilities/colour-multifunction/44952104/?os=ab57&lang=ac2 or https://www.oki.com/au/printing/support/drivers-and-utilities/colour-multifunction/44952146/?os=ab57&lang=ac2. See https://okiprinting-en-gb.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30931. Does your MC362 have a suffix? Also, I noticed that MC362 models are mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as printers supporting the driverless AirPrint technology.

Hi,

The Epson support sites offer somewhat different files for the R200. You may want to compare Epson Europe and Epson US:

https://www.epson.eu/support?productID=123&language=en&os=38#drivers_and_manuals

https://epson.com/Support/Printers/Single-Function-Inkjet-Printers/Epson-Stylus-Series/Epson-Stylus-Photo-R200/s/SPT_C11C546011?review-filter=macOS+11.x

Anything installed by the Epson Software Updater?

The US site has a Printer Driver v10.85.

It may be a good idea to begin by resetting the printing system, and re-adding the printer.

If you need to remove old software, the Uninstall Center could perhaps be useful as well.

Did you follow the exact procedure in Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem - Apple Support? If necessary, Epson has an uninstall utility.

How are the printers connected?

Regarding the OKI MC362, is there a suffix (such as dn, dw, or w)? Does the printer in question have Ethernet and/or Wi-Fi (in addition to USB)?

There is an OKI AirPrint user's manual (https://www.oki.com/printing/download/45574702EE4_AirPrint_G_EN_263335.pdf?id=45574702EE) that perhaps could be of interest (if the model in fact supports AirPrint). If applicable, check that the latest firmware version is in use, and make sure that AirPrint has been enabled (page 10).

thank you Jan ... I used the links you gave me above and now my system preference for printers does not find the epson at all ... I also restarted my machine and downloaded the epson 'connect printer setup' (shows as being created in 2016) ... still nothing.

I then did the reset printing system and It finds the machine but get the following error message.

an error occurred while trying to add the selected device. .... so frustrating ... anything else I should do? thanks for your help.
