that’s not true. mine cracked without being dropped
If you feel that is the case, make an appointment to have your phone examined by Apple.
They are trained to be able to tell the difference between a stress crack or manufacturing defect and damage due to impact, and stress cracks or defects do occasionally occur as they do with any other product that uses glass.
What is mind boggling is Apple designed the iPhone 12 in such a way that the back glass is inferior to the front and if the back glass magically/mysteriously breaks there was no way to repair it (They found a way to replace the back glass now, but still ridiculous and still very expensive without AppleCare). Why would Apple make a part(back glass) that is so integral to the entire structure of the phone be less fragile than the front glass which can be replaced easily?? Profits/lower manufacturing costs? I agree with you and had the same sentiment. The advertising is extremely misleading.
My iPhone 12 Pro Max rear glass cracked. From putting in/out of a case!!!
was told it was considered “damage” and I would have to pay $104 for replacement.
it is a design issue, not due to force or fall. The center of the crack is and lower medial corner of where the camera lenses are in back because phone flexes when taking it in/out of case
this is a design flaw. See the picture
I’m new here but had to put my experience out there. I don’t think you’re quite understanding what’s happening!?
I got my IPhone 12 Pro Max literally 8 hours ago and I went to screenshot something using the two different buttons on the phone and I heard something that sounded like a pop noise and the back of my phone was shattered!!!
So yes that is 100% considered a defect and my phone was not dropped whatsoever, not an inch or a foot!! I went to take a picture and it starts cracking?! So what’s the excuse for that since mine didn’t fall at all??
Same same. Had my 12 Pro less than two months, one drop from hip height in a MagSafe case and the back is a spiderweb. Didn’t get applecare specifically because of the advertising that this is the strongest glass ever (during which they drop phones NOT in a case), and from my past experience with many no break drops on the previous iPhones, I figured I’m safe. They did not specifically state that the back glass is different in their advertising. I reckon this qualifies as false advertising; I definitely would not consider it honest or realistic. The back has a problem, and the apple staff defending them on here need to recognise that we have had iPhones for a long time and never seen them break this way. And to have to pay half the cost of the ****** phone to repair what is clearly their error is adding insult to injury. This is BS. Very displeased. And worse still I’m in Kenya, so the logistics of repair is a whole other story. Apple need to do better, period.
Yes, and their website clearly clarifies that 4x as being for the front glass as compared to the iPhone 11 and it is stated several times in the video you cite as a comparison of drop performance. (The video also makes it clear they are talking about the front glass.)
Sitting and placing pressure on a flat piece of glass is not “drop performance.”
Again, claims of "stronger glass" have always been regarding the front glass of the iPhone 12.
For example:
"Claim based on iPhone 12 Pro Ceramic Shield front compared with previous-generation iPhone"

If you feel a crack is not user damage, have your phone examined by Apple.
They will tell you whether they believe it is due to impact or another reason.
Happened to me too. Seems to be a big (and general) problem but some followers whistle and don’t want to believe - say that it’s just some few cases reported. And for your information if it has a crack (even minor ones) apple won’t fulfill the warranty if something stops working - happened to me!!!
Applecare+ will cover up to two accidental damage events during the 2 years. There is an excess charge of $99
News flash.
The rear glass can not be repaired and the device must be replaced.
It's easy to get fixed.
$99 if you have AppleCare+. if not:
Spigen Quartz Hybrid. Been using a version of this for some time. I also keep my phone in an Encased Belt Clip Case.
I had my new Iphone 12 max for a week and in otterbox case.... I noticed glass around camera was cracked about a week later... took off case and it was cracked all over. I reported this to apple and they said i must have dropped it and they would not repair. I have had many iphones and this has never happened... I do not recall dropping the phone and really lost for words. This phone has issues with back glass.... warning before you buy.
I have had my 12 since November. Went to push the lock/volume to reset. Back glass cracked. $99 with applecare+ It is definitely a design or glass manufacturing flaw. Hopefully, Tim Cook will get wind of this and make it right.

I was in my living room sitting on the couch cleaning the phone. I had taken it out of the case. It slips out of my hand falls less than 2 feet onto my padded carpet. It now has a crack from the top right to the bottom left. I really don’t want to have to pay to repair/replace the back glass because it shouldn’t have even cracked like that since it’s “more durable” than the 11 Pro Max.
It is more durable than the 11 Pro Max's glass, but it's still glass and will break if the phone lands "wrong" as is the case with all glass.
This is yet another great reason to have AppleCare+.
