that’s not true. mine cracked without being dropped
If you feel that is the case, make an appointment to have your phone examined by Apple.
They are trained to be able to tell the difference between a stress crack or manufacturing defect and damage due to impact, and stress cracks or defects do occasionally occur as they do with any other product that uses glass.
Yes - I’ve had my iPhone12 in a case since I bought it - took it out of the case to clean it, found the glass cracked around the camera area
The more I look, the more I see this has been an ongoing issue with the design of this model.
design flaws in this mode have already led Apple to make changes in how they do repairs on the back glass, but they have not yet admitted their mistake.
If this is endemic to iPhone's with back glass, these forums, the worlds larges forums devoted to all things iPhone would be deluged with complaints. But they're not. Glass is glass. Glass can break if dropped in the unfortunately just right spot.
Since iPhone became a glass encased device, I have owned, iPhone X, XS Max, 11 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max and now 13 Pro Max. I'm not drop prone, but I have certainly dropped my phones on occasion and not once have any of them suffered broken backs or front screens. Now, every phone I've owned has had a higher quality (not your average $6 screen protector) and all have been in a case. I don't use Otterbox. Instead I use this combination, which is a good case (my current favorite is the Quartz Hybrid Spigen) inside an Encased Clip case.
If this combo falls, there will no harm to my phone.
Sure, they listen. Just not here. Send feedback to them where they do listen --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple
And yes, either don't drop your phone, which is clad in all glass, just like Samsung or Google, all of which crack just as easily, or buy a really durable case for the phone. I can't imagine why anyone buys an all glass device and doesn't protect their investment with a good case and good screen protector.
I've personally dropped my phone several times. But my phone is super protected and I've never had a cracked screen or back.
Assuming phone wasn’t protected is just an inaccurate assumption - you may want to check your back glass too - folks have had back glass shattered while in the best protection cases. Front glass is not the issue - it’s the back of the phone that is hyper fragile
Yes me too. I’ve had all the phones from release and this is the only one ive had this happen. My phones are always kept in drop proof cases and my iphone 12 broke badly when it fell down the stairs. Ok it was a bad fall but all my other phones have never had a scratch on them let alone a cracked screen. I had the rear glass replaced 3 weeks ago but it’s got a crack on it when it fell 1ft off the sofa. I’m not paying again for it to be fixed so will avoid the upgrade to iphone 13 as it has the same glass rear screen.
Looks like it’s a massive issue as lots are reporting the same thing. I might have to drop back to an iphone 11 just to avoid this happening again.
Applecare+ accidental back damage is $99
They will only replace it. Many of the components are bonded to the back, cannot be repaired.
If you mean bribe them, then no.
Drops are not the only way you can break glass. Click on the Get Support link at the top right of this page and start the service process.

Is there anything in the case like a coin or card
Sell a cracked phone?? Brilliant .
No.
Either live with it, glue on a third party replacement cover, or have it "repaired" by out of warranty replacement.
My glass shattered in a case after falling about 2 feet. I have the 12 max pro and was super disappointed. It didn’t impact the images of my camera initially but is now adding prisms too the photos. I have had multiple iPhones and never had the back shatter like this. I also had the phone less than a week. So disappointed! The phone insurance wants to charge to replace the glass $250.
I wouldnt spend that on a phone and not cover it with Applecare+ or similar accidental insurance. Iphones have had glass backs since the 8. Denim jeans pockets are another no-no for glass phones. Case will not protect it.
My iPhone 12 mini developed a small crack/chip in the back glass in its first week with no drops or other explanation for how it happened. I previously had a 7 plus and an 11 pro max and neither of them even had a scratch in them, let alone a crack so I am quite concerned about the durability of my 12 mini. I paid for AppleCare so probably at some point will get it fixed but it is quite disappointing.
I’ve had my iPhone 12 Pro for 3 weeks and I literally just set it down on my coffee table and the back cracked . I’m here because I searched if other people were having an issue with the backs of these phones ! I’ve owned an iPhone since they were first released and have Never Had one break like this ! This is ridiculous , especially after reading everyone’s comments that have had the same thing happen !!
