that’s not true. mine cracked without being dropped
If you feel that is the case, make an appointment to have your phone examined by Apple.
They are trained to be able to tell the difference between a stress crack or manufacturing defect and damage due to impact, and stress cracks or defects do occasionally occur as they do with any other product that uses glass.
Mine was withing 30 days return policy when I read this thread. 2 weeks ago there were 160 "me too", now it's over 400. there is another similar thread with over 1500 "me too",I'm glad I sent it back.
I also have the same problem with my iPhone 12 Pro , after 4 days of work back screen cracked after 2’ drop in military grade tested case, very bad quality of glass. Using iPhone’s for 10 years, maybe it’s time to start buying something else...
Sometimes when I’m reading people’s responds (who are supporting apple in this situation with very bad quality of glass) only one reasonable explanation-they are definitely apple’s employees. I was posting before, I’m working in heavy construction, my phone drops often, because I’m always are having other tools in my hands. With previous model I did not have any issues (even when it felt from second floor on concrete basement slab during framing job(it was iPhone 8).Now on my 3day of enjoying new iPhone 12 Pro, I understood that I spent $1100 for defective item(repair costs $545). Apparently they forgot about making good quality items and are trying to maximize profits, but that is only how they are going to loose loyal customers which were with them for years!
P.S. I’m always using the most expensive iPhone cases which are available on market!
I was in my living room sitting on the couch cleaning the phone. I had taken it out of the case. It slips out of my hand falls less than 2 feet onto my padded carpet. It now has a crack from the top right to the bottom left. I really don’t want to have to pay to repair/replace the back glass because it shouldn’t have even cracked like that since it’s “more durable” than the 11 Pro Max.
I’ve had this thing less than 4 weeks. I had my two galaxy notes with glass backs and 11 pro Max way longer, and those went through some stuff but nothing like this ever happened to those.
My phone didn’t land anywhere I simply put it on the charging mat and because the case had ever so slightly came away from the back of the phone the magnet on the case and in the phone coming together caused the back to shatter. The case is a genuine MagSafe case purchased through Apple specifically for this phone which I do not think is fit for purpose, maybe Apple just sent me a duff case which has resulted in me having a costly repair for no fault of my own
Since you seem to not understand the issue, let me entertain you with my story. I had not dropped my iPhone 12 Pro when i looked at the back and the glass was cracked. To prove that point even further, the glass is not cracked on the outer layer. To the touch it seems fine. It is cracked on the inside, which would not have happened from a drop. You’re telling everyone they must’ve dropped it but that’s simply not the case when it cracks on the internal layer.
Glass won't crack from overheating in this case, that's why the phone has internal sensors that will shut it down if it gets too hot - to avoid electronic or physical damage.
However, if you feel differently, contact Apple Support directly and make an appointment to have your phone examined, and they will make the decision as to whether it is covered damage.
It's their call and all we can do is debate the issue.
I'm not an Apple employee - no user here not specifically denoted as one is - and I am not blind to the issue.
However, there have literally been no verified cases relayed here of cracked glass to "overheating" due to operation or charging.
As I stated, if you feel that is what occurred with your device, contact Apple Support directly, and they will examine your phone, and determine what actions can be taken to repair your device and at what cost, if any.

Since you have an Otterbox case, have you asked them about it?
I know you say you didn't drop it, but since the glass shattered while in their case, it would be an obvious first question to ask.
If you feel it is a defect, have you contacted Apple Support about it?
It never hurts to ask:
You had your support from here:
https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/service
There is no other support available.
Had my phone for literally a MONTH.
and it fell from my pocket not even a foot and shattered the back! I had a nice case on that the person told me would protect my phone from shattering!!! I think it’s because the camera is not protected and since it’s so big the glass is easy to crack and just shatter from there.
I could throw my 8+ and drop it so many times and it never broke like this before!! I never had a phone just shatter and it makes me so angry. $200 later AFTER A MONTH of having it and I’m having to get a replacement phone. Not HAPPY.
Apple is reportedly making a unit available such that the current phone's front display and rear camera are transplanted to the replacement unit.
That is far from "glass replacement," it's essentially swapping out your phone for another completely new phone except for two pieces - new glass, new case, new logic board, new battery, new speakers, and on and on, only the front display and rear camera are retained.
Almost every story on here is the exact same. Most people didn’t drop their phone. They had their phones protected with a case. Have no recollection of any major event that would have twisted or bent their phone beyond normal and reasonable usage for a phone. Yet, your immediate response is... it’s your fault/you did it. That isn’t in dispute and your consistent response to every Apple customer on here is quite insulting. Obviously, some amount of force had to have been applied. The issue is the amount of or even the manner in which it was applied that would have caused major damage that has all of us scratching our heads. Nobody knows how their phone was broken. It just did. That’s why we are on here wasting precious time sharing our stories with other individuals. My phone broke at the lower right hand corner of the camera bezel. Almost every single photo I’ve seen of broken back glass of an iPhone 12 Pro has broken in the same place. Coincidence? I don’t think it is.
Yep! Both mine and my husband got the protective cases . He has a clear otter box and I had a gear 4 case (which att said was the MOST protective) and the back of mine shattered I was holding our newborn and it slipped and fell on CARPET. and my husband is in the navy but we just noticed his cracked on the back as well so yeah I don’t recommend these phones . No case protects them . I’ve NEVER broken an iPhone until now . And I’ve had every iPhone :(
No, it doesn't crack "easily."
Further, I don't know where your impressions came from, but what Apple has to say about it is:
Ceramic Shield with 4x better drop performance.*
* Claim based on iPhone 12 Pro Ceramic Shield front compared with previous-generation iPhone.
iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max Key Features - Apple
So not "ever," not "most crack-resistant ever" but rather the front glass is 4x less prone to shatter when dropped than the iPhone 11's front glass.
Indeed, you're not complaining about a shattered screen.
