”Missing Plugin” problem in FCP 10.5 (Big Sur)

Hello!

I’ve got a odd problem with Final Cut Pro 10.5 after the Big Sur-update. Most of my media files (mp4, png, mp3, wav, mov, doesn’t matter) gets a red ”missing plugin” error with a puzzle piece.

I am running FCP totally ”vanilla” without any plugins, just using the built-in transitions, effects, titles etc. Also, I’ve turned off the option that copies media files to the library so the media files are widely spread in many different folders and locations, both external drives and internal drives.

I can’t really find a pattern in which files are working and which files doesn’t work, it seems to affect all file types and it doesn’t matter where the file is located. What i do have found as a temporary solution is if I drag in the exact same media file again into the same project, anywhere in the timeline, FCP seems to ”refresh” the file and it starts to work everywhere that particular file is used.

Maybe it’s a read/right-problem so FCP can’t read the files? I’ve checked the privacy settings and FCP has full folder access though.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hi

I've just been having similar issues with missing plugin logos suddenly appearing over video material that had previously been working. I've resolved it by making sure the source files weren't being accessed 'on demand' in iCloud and they were downloaded to the local drive.

It seems to have resolved the issue.

If your files are being stored in iCloud (or any other cloud storage network); In finder, go to the source location, right click on the file and select 'Download Now'.

Hope that helps?

Tom Wolsky here is two different clips:

This one works fine, there was no problem with this file after the update.

This one doesn't work after the update.

Plugins are usually playback plugins.

How do I know which playback plugin that failes in that case? And as I said earlier, if i drag the media file into the timeline again, it works everywhere again, but it's a pain to drag in 100+ media files for one single project to get it to work again.

You don't need plugins for playback for those clips. I'm guessing the second is an iPhone. The first looks like a standard AVCHD file. Guessing without information. I've not seen that problem unless it was for specific cameras that require updated playback software. . You might try trashing preferences and rebooting. Wondering if it's a localization problem.
