iPhone email "No password provided" error

Suddenly cannot get email on my iphone with iOS 14.2. I get the message that there is no password provided. I have rebooted the phone. I have gone to settings and re-entered my password for the incoming and outgoing mail servers. Am jstill getting the same message that there is no password provided.

For all of those with ATT accounts, I had to get a 'secure mail key from ATT and use it during the email account setup process where it asked for password. Overall, it was a very frustrating process and I was shocked when it finally started working. It really should not be this confusing. I did the following.

1. Got the secure mail key by logging into ATT account and going to profile and requesting the key.

2. Deleted existing yahoo/att email account from iPhone

3. Adding the new 'other' email account using the steps is the article, https://www.serversettings.email/att.net-email-server-settings-imap.php#iphone

*** use email key where it asks for password

Thank you to all that posted some information on the topic because there does not appear to be a 100% clear answer for all situations.

Melissa, I have been having this issue all week; it started out of nowhere. I cannot get email from one of my AOL accounts; it tells me 'No Password Provided'. I never changed my password and there are no issues with any of my other 5 accounts, one of which is another AOL account. I'm running iOS 14.4. This has been going on for some months now as I can see and the troubleshooter does not help. When can we expect a fix from Apple?

My email is not working (sending or receiving) on my iphone 8. Error message says the phone is not connected to iCloud and I need to provide a password in mail accounts. The operating system is updated. I went through the steps in the article "If you can't receive email on your iPhone..." Some steps would not work, e.g. Turn mail off then back on (the button would not turn off). Also I can not check storage because of the lack of iCloud connection. I was in the process of changing to more secure passwords when this occurred so probably I push a wrong button. I just want to be able to check my email on my phone again.

I am having this problem too. It appears to happen “whenever”. I can log onto the website or any other email app with these credentials NO PROBLEM. I have tried everything suggested. I have deleted the account and attempted to reinstall it many times. It’s aggravating ridiculous issues like this that make me think of getting away from Apple altogether! My email hasn't been working for a week or longer and I didn’t notice because (I have other emails that were working) the error I get is a small notice at the bottom of the email app, if I wait a few minutes. I have missed emails I didn’t know I was getting. This is pitiful, Apple!

Hi CGD32, I don't know how you figured out this solution with the emails on the iphone with AOL accounts but I followed your instructions and it worked for me too! :) Thank you!

By doing these steps and putting in this "APP" password - this doesn't in anyway affect the security of the emails on my iphone does it?

Look forward to your reply but in the meantime - Thank you again!

CGD32 ,

Thank you for your reply! All good to know especially that you have not had any issues. And YES I agree 100%

I am very thankful that it works! Crazy how all of a sudden everything just stopped and I was not getting any

new emails from my AOL account on my phone. SO Frustrating! I spend 2 days trying to figure it out on my own

when I "happened" on your post!

Thanks again! :)

Thank goodness! This worked for me too! Was going crazy for two days now trying to find out how to fix this sudden problem. I have an Apple iPad Pro, 4 years old and I updated to 14.4 a couple weeks ago and have had some whacky problems since. Mostly keyboard stuff, some unexplained freezes and but this email problem just suddenly sprang up. So thankful I came across this fix, worked like a charm. For those with an iPad instead of an iPhone just follow the same instructions...EXCEPT, there will only be ONE PLACE to fill in the newly generated password. Only in the INCOMING MAIL section, not the outgoing section. But it fixes both problems so don't worry about it, just go through the steps and get that new password in there and click DONE. Afterwards I went directly to my email and it loaded immediately. I sent a reply to somebody and it went without a hitch. Thanks CDG32!

I have the same problem with my iPhone, running iOS 14.3. My iPad, which is still running on 13.5.1, does not have the problem. It is outrageous that Apple screwed up so badly. This is bull..... And they force these updates on you. I’m ready to migrate back to MS and Android. Maybe if they started paying their employees a living wage, they could get a better quality of employee, who could do this right.

The article linked in this response is not helpful. I am not receiving iCloud.com email on my phone; I have correctly entered my password, regardless of the error message. The article provided here refers to deleting the email account and adding it anew, but there is no option on my iphone to permit me to delete an icloud email account. Please provide assistance for this error as applied to an iCloud.com email account.

One of my email accounts stopped working on my iPad in the Outlook App with the infamous "Cannot Get Mail" "No password provided for ... Please go to Maill Account Settings and enter a password" message, and still not working after many attempts to make sure password was entered correctly even though it was there to start with. This problem did start a couple of weeks ago when we had travelled and thought it might be related to the time zone per the note above, but turning off the automatic time zone and selecting the time zone did not resolve the issue.
