Just one more thing, marcworld. I goofed when I said the native Mac scanner software didn't work fully with the ND1000 after installing both the latest driver and the Neat Scan Utility. It does work properly.

The "combine into single document" option appears if you select PDF as the scan format. I tested this after I wrote my previous comment by scanning a two-sided color document and saving it as a single document. It worked just fine. Good luck getting yours up and running.

As an aside, the Mac app PDFScanner also works with the ND1000 on Big Sur. When I first installed it, it wouldn't connect to the ND1000. But on a hunch, I opened the Neat Scan Utility and verified that it connected with the scanner normally. I closed the Neat Scan Utility and the reopened PDFScanner. This time it did connect with the ND1000 and worked perfectly. I don't know if I'll have to do that each time I want to use PDFScanner, but I don't really think so. But even if I do, it's a simple work around.

Bottom line: I have confirmed on both my 2018 15" MBP and my 2015 21.5" iMac that the Neat ND1000 will work under Big Sur with the Neat Scan Utility, the native Apple scanner software, and the Mac app PDFScanner. You just have to install the latest Neat scanner driver and the Neat Scan Utility to make that happen.

I've looked at those few pages until my eyes have bled. That **** installer doesn't give you the actual mobile scanner driver that you need to run their NM-1000 scanner that came with Neat Receipts.

They also BLATANTLY LIE with their download links. Their download that says download the latest Neat for Mac takes you only to the scanner download link which is incomplete.

If you dial their phone line it blocks you from getting through to a human if you haven't subscribed to their service.

I feel like they are actually stealing from me at this point. They never provided what I paid for so the least they could do is just give us the links to what we did pay for. Is that asking too much? LOL!

If any finds the original installer for Neat Receipts for Mac or can at least send me a copy of the driver I'd really appreciate it.

Did I mention this Neat really sucks as a company?

Hello again marcworld. Wanted to update the post I just made.

I tried the ND1000 again, using my MPB's built-in scanning software. (You remember, my Near ADF Scanner.). Anyway, it did scan both sides of a color document as it should have when Duplex is selected. However, there is no "Combine into single document" box to check, like appears with other scanners. So there's that...

@MarcoNJ, @JR1618, @sfranco -

Not enough detail in the posts above. Please clarify what version of MacOS you are using, and exactly the nature of your problems that you were having with the Neat Scanner?

For me, just to be sure if this suggestion was good – I pulled out my Neat scanner again, and installed the "Neat Scan Utility", which does not work on its own - you must also install the "Neat Drivers", the currently available version of the drivers being 4.0.1.

On my Big Sur Mac, using the Neat Scan Utility application resulted in exactly the same malfunction as when I tried using the MacOS native scanner application -- the roller mechanism of the scanner continues to roll for far too long, not recognizing the end of the page, and when it finally does stop on its own - maybe 8 seconds after the page was ejected? - there is no image returned to the application. Just nothing.

So, I'm still confident the issue is a bug in the driver for Big Sur.

Putting the Neat scanner back into the closet, uninstalling the app and drivers...and resuming use of my Epson ES-50 which I should add is a much faster scanner than the Neat scanner ever was. Didn't love buying a new one but it works and the scan time feels maybe 25% less than Neat's hardware used to be.
