Homepod mini handoff not working

I purchased this specifically for the handoff feature as working from home I thought it would be pretty cool to be able to hold my phone near it while on call or playing a podcast and have it transfer over without going through the Bluetooth menu but after setting up the homepod mini, it just doesn't work at all. The "transfer to homepod" feature is enabled.

Also, when I tap the top, it just starts playing U2 music but not sure why it does that. What app would that be playing from/ Any way to disable that?

Also having this issue. Have tried all recommended solutions and even called apple support, but they didn’t offer anything new to try. I updated my HomePod mini to 14.3 and no change. I’m using an iPhone 12. This should really be a priority to Apple’s developers as it seems like a fairly widespread issue and we can’t use one of their most convenient features.

Why would I pay the apple premium for features I can’t even use?

Hi All I have already shared the steps to try which worked for me, in addition to that post 14.3 update on my HomePod I wanted to share that the transfer has become extra sensitive. Like the phone is being sensed from far by the home pod mini. My phone isn't equipped with U1 etc. It is iPhone SE 2020. All good including call landing on speaker directly and handoff. Only issue couple of times I observed was call drop while call is still on going on phone. Other than that I see no issues.

Hello there I had the same doubt with mine earlier and removed whole of MDM profile from the phone did a factory reset and tried with out bringing in any old data. Started working like a charm. Then slowly I setup all the apps required for my daily stuff and checked after each and still worked. Finally I installed my work profile and then tested all works without any issues. To me it sounds like earlier if we have done any OTA updates those scores things which Apple is still not able to figure. Now 14.3 installation i did through my Mac which was 5.5GB. I chose to avoid OTA update and after the update checked all works well as expected.

Hi All

I have a point to validate - I had my HomePod mini working with all the steps I mentioned consistently since a month now. Yesterday I was unable to transfer the music/calls and only deviation I could think was installing Amazon Alexa. I removed and restarted the phone and the handoff works again flawless. Just to make sure it is coincidental I repeated the steps and was able to reproduce the issue. Looks like some conflict in there. Please try and let me know if any of you can solve your issue with this...

Didn't work for me. Wish that it would, but it didn't. For an app such as Amazon Alexa, one would think Apple might rectify that. Even though those of us here are obviously Apple supporters, many also own Amazon Alexa devices and speak to Alexa often throughout the course of the day. Apple and Alexa should work in communion with one another. If in some instances there is a problem, one would think Amazon or Apple would have to get on that right away.

I can’t afford to do a factory reset as I have too many corporate apps that would be very painful to reinstall. Not to mention WiFi passwords. Hopefully apple will be able to fix this. I don’t think;I it’s the OTA update itself as I have a other phone with different apps that works with Handoff after an OTA update.

I got a call from apple support because they saw this thread and wanted to help troubleshoot. They downloaded logs from my Mac and I will keep you all posted if we make progress.

At this point I would give it a little time and let Apple figure out the problem. I think we all have tried enough and now they need to gather log file information and come up with a fix. Apple reached out to me and gathered some log files so its very comforting to know that they realize there is a problem and they are working on coming up with a solution, hopefully a firmware fix but it may take a few weeks or so but Im sure they will figure it out. At this point we need to be patient, Ive been an apple user for a long time and Ive always seen them come up with a fix sooner or later, Im okay with it for now. Im done with troubleshooting, now its up to Apple to come up with a fix, I personally will hold onto my homepod mini’s because Im sure they will fix it eventually.

So. I think I’ve got this problem just about narrowed down. I at least know where to start looking to find the problem.

my story... i’ve have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. It has hundreds of apps on it. This week I bought the HomePod. The handoff feature never worked on my phone, but worked on my wife’s flawlessly. She has an iPhone 11. This hinted that this seemed to be a problem on my phone, and not the HomePod itself.

I called Apple support. I talked to them for hours. We tried everything...Soft phone reset, complete factory reset of HomePod, network setting reset, removal of HomePod from phone, adding it back to phone, checked all settings, and so on. Everything under the sun was covered and triple checked. We finally came to the conclusion that I needed to erase my entire iPhone and return to factory settings. Ugh!

After erasing my entire iPhone, handoff worked flawlessly. Thus, proving there was no hardware issue with the phone at this point. However, here’s what I shortly found out...

I stayed up all night reinstalling all of my apps back to my iPhone, manually. (took hours). (I didn’t want to reinstall a full iPhone backup in case it had a bug in it. ) I wanted to do everything manually. After finally getting logged back into all my apps, and re-adding my Apple Watch back to my phone, ....poof! Handoff was dead. It’s 100% either an app conflict or the Apple Watch itself causing the handoff to fail. Absolutely not sure which one it is.

I’m going to factory reset my phone again today, and slowly add back every single app one by one. I will test the handoff feature in between adding every single app. Hopefully I will see which app it is that is causing this failure.

Its definitely a software issue . ( in my opinion ) Im convinced this is NOT a hardware issue with HomePod or iPhone.

It could be an issue with adding the Apple Watch or AirPods . But my wife has the Apple Watch and AirPods also, but her phone performs handoff flawlessly. So I am leaning towards that not being the issue.

i’m pretty convinced this is an app conflict. We will see. I’ll keep this board updated after the next multiple hours of work. What a headache!

So I have bad news and good news. The good news is that I think I have narrowed this down to some sort of app interference.

the bad news , after sitting here contemplating the horror of deleting my phone and reinstalling all those apps from scratch and testing handoff between every one. I just can’t. I’m tapped out. 😂

however, I hope my findings will help lead someone in this community, or Apple down the path of picking out the culprit app.

it took me four hours to re-download all my apps after a complete wipe last night. If I tested handoff between every app install, it would take me 24 hours to finish. I think I’ve reached my mental limit.😩

probably a case better solved in Apple laboratories.

as a follow up, I will call Apple support again today with my case number and update them on the info that I found. Hopefully it helps them get a fix this.

I’ll keep everyone updated to any new findings. Maybe after a few days and some sleep I’ll feel differently. But as of now, I’m done.

Without the use of handoff, my plan is to just use airplay until this bug is fixed.

A new issue found today...after all the reinstall and setup done, during the call suddenly speaker voice stops and the audio mode is still on HomePod. To continue the call, I had to manually change it to the iPhone speaker and the recipient is still on the line. These issues are crazy and until these are fixed its a waste of time with HomePod mini. Still I love this product !

Same issue here ... I had both my Home Pod Minis arrive today. I use an Iphone XR without any corporate apps or profiles. At first Handoff worked with one and not the other. After a few hours it didnt work for either of them.

Hope that Apple fixes that, I buy the Apple premium because "It just works". Well, it doesnt.

I read all seven pages of this thread. I tried everything you guys suggested and more: Reset phone, HomePod Mini, logged out of iCloud, even went into my XFinity router and made sure peer to peer was working. Nothing fixed it. I was able to get the HomePod Mini to the point that it said it was having trouble connecting to the internet. I tweaked every setting on the XFINITY router that I could. I have an Airport Extreme hard-wired to the XFINITY modem/router. I reset the Home app, reset the HomePod Mini and added everything to the WiFi network putout from my Airport Extreme. I had been adding everything to the XFINITY router WiFi network. After switching to my AE, everything works perfectly now! All of my smart plugs now work properly too. Not sure for how long, but I am happy! (When I setup my HomePod Mini through the XFINITY router, it stated all functions may not work bc peer to peer is not enabled. Even though I enabled it)

FYI: I started having problems when I upgraded to an iPhone 12. Running OS 14.3 on both my iPhone 12 and HomePod mini.
