Homepod mini handoff not working

I purchased this specifically for the handoff feature as working from home I thought it would be pretty cool to be able to hold my phone near it while on call or playing a podcast and have it transfer over without going through the Bluetooth menu but after setting up the homepod mini, it just doesn't work at all. The "transfer to homepod" feature is enabled.

Also, when I tap the top, it just starts playing U2 music but not sure why it does that. What app would that be playing from/ Any way to disable that?

Murtaza, that’s good news. Did it always work on your iPhone X? Or was there a time when it did not work and through their efforts Apple Support was able to rectify the problem for you? To know simply that it works for you doesn’t help those of us for whom it does not. The frustrated among us who can’t get Handoff to work will look forward to any help you might provide.

Thank you for that information. It appears as though Apple is now at least acknowledging the problem. Along with the Home Pod Mini, I also have the original large Home Pod, and interestingly Handoff is not working on it either. I suppose that points to a problem with the present iOS rather than a hardware problem on the Mini in particular.

Hi Puffy98 - What phone are you using to make the Handoff? If it is an iPhone 12 (if so, I'll assume that you are running 14.2.1 on it also, or was it an older phone running 14.2), did you do a clean install on the phone or did you set it up with an iCloud backup from a previous phone? As an aside, I contacted Apple Support today to verbalize my disappointment and to question if 14.2.1 addressed the Handoff issue, and they did not indicate that 14.2.1, even though the 12/7 release was for the Home Pod specifically, was to address the Handoff feature. I did not see it in their release notes either. In any event, enjoy your newly-functioning feature. The rest of us will hope that we are not too far behind you.

i recently upgraded to 12 Pro Max. Got speaker almost two weeks ago. In beginning handoff worked. Now it doesn’t. Saw I had software update yesterday which took speaker to 14.2. Same issue. Now when I tap speaker playing music on phone it says more than one device trying to play music and did I want to upgrade to family plan. I have to AirPlay for sharing now.

Didn’t work for me, I have the new iphone 12 pro max, my handoff works fine but my daughters iphone 12 pro max never have worked with the iphone mini handoff and let me tell you she barely has any apps on her phone so its not an app causing the problem, hopefully its software because the main reason I bought 3 of the homepod mini’s was for the handoff function. And Im really getting tired of the fact that the recourse is always to wipe the hone and restore as new and see if it works. The thing is I dont care if it works with a clean phone. Her previous iphone 11 pro max worker perfectly and we restored her iphone 12 pro max the the iphone 11 backup so why in the **** wouldnt it work. And if we wipe her phone and restored it as new which we did and it didnt work but even if it did what is apple going to say ???...its my problem because its something on your phone, so I just spent close to $2000 for the phone, taxes, apple care case, magsafe and I supposed to use my phone with no apps? And in my case I have a hundred apps and many of them are extremely important to me so wiping my phone to test something is a NO-GO, Apple needs to develop some kind of diagnostic so they can determine conflicts on the phone, getting tired of spending $2000 for a phone then having to troubleshoot problems for a month and or wait for a fix to come out. The homepod mini is an obvious wide spread problem so how in the **** did Apple not see this in their testing???...I dont get it!

I’m in total agreement with you, JimCzer. Where’s the fix? At least these posts are bringing our problem to a wider audience. iOS Today on TWIT did a piece on it on their Tuesday show. (Good show, by the way.) Unfortunately, the info provided was not correct. Apple will need to address this as a widespread problem because it is. If not, they will get my new iPhone and the Home Pod Mini back, and when enough people return the product, they’ll take notice. Enough already - I’m not wiping my phone, I’m not taking all of my apps off of the phone either. And I am tired of dealing with Apple Support so-called professionals who don’t know what they’re talking about if it’s not written on a sheet of paper in front of them. The additional support I buy for various products through Apple Care+ is proving to be as useless as the info provided by their frequently woefully uninformed first line advisors.

9to5 Mac has a short video on their website today (12/9/2020) regarding iOS 14.3(RC)'s features and changes which states at the very beginning that the Handoff "experience" is not yet available ("but that should be coming before the end of the year according to Apple's keynote. We'll see what happens.")!!! Someone at Apple apparently forgot to alert their Apple Support team!! Why have we all been jumping through hoops at their instruction to investigate the non-functional feature? "Let's all wipe our phones and start from scratch." Apple's advertisements for the Home Pod mini touting Handoff should probably be revised, too.

Weird how it works for everyone's review on Youtube for the homepod mini though lol

Well, it doesnt work for me but in my case I have two iphone 12 pro max, works on one but not the other, it really ****** me off that I spent so many hours with Apple and sounds like that the handoff feature for airpod mini isnt really available yet. So it may or may not work at this point be officially sounds like it wound be a supported functional feature until 14.3

Mine never worked from the start. Tried it with my 12 mini, X and 6s. None of them worked, called support they couldn’t figure it out and said to bring it into Apple. The Genius Bar couldn’t figure it out and even made me log in to a test device and that device didn’t work either. They replaced my HomePod mini with another one and we tested that one in store and it didn’t work either. They ended up saying nothing we can do on our end. Just hope that a software update fixes it.

Honestly pretty disappointed in the response from them.
