Camera light on

After installing Big Sur on early 2014 MacBook Air today, the green light next to camera came on. No programs are running that would use it. Haven't had this issue before. How do I shut it off?

Hello Parwady,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about your camera light on your Mac.

The light should only be on when an app that uses the camera is open: Use the built-in camera on Mac - Apple Support

  • "Turn the camera on: On your Mac, open an app or turn on a feature that can use the camera. A green light beside the camera glows to indicate that the camera is on.

  • Turn the camera off: On your Mac, close or quit all apps or turn off all features that can use the camera. The green light beside the camera turns off, showing that the camera is off."

If you can't find any apps open, see if one is open in Force Quit. Click the Apple > Force Quit. If you can't find any open apps, try restarting your Mac in safe mode and see if the issue occurs there, and after you restart again: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
