That is perhaps enough.. to suggest confusion.
We are interpreting airport as the wireless router you plug into the ISP supplied modem.. Apple named their routers airports.
But they also named their wireless cards in the Mac as airports. So what I think you are referring to is the details you dug out of system report.
What is the model is the laptop?
From system report the top line will give you the model and year.
What is the make and model of the ISP supplied modem router?
Turn it over and look on the base and check.
Please confirm you have no other routers or network devices.. like Apple airport router.. or if you do the actual model number.
I am assuming there is no apple router with the rest of this but even if that is the case you should still be able to get wireless working in the Mac if the new ISP router includes wireless.
With a new wireless router you will need to clear out all the old wifi names and reboot the laptop so you can type in the password as supplied by your ISP modem manufacturer.
Click on the airport fan. Go to the bottom where it says network preferences. Make sure the airport is turned on and you should be able to see a number of wireless names listed.

So the bottom one is Network Preferences.. You can also go via main preferences app.

Click on Advanced.

If you are having issues connecting to the new wifi of the new router then first of all remove all the existing names.. there could be a fair few. Select each one and use the - down below the box to remove it.
Once empty.. you can then power off the laptop and restart.. and just select the wireless name (SSID) of the new router and type in the name.
