Hi to everyone,
since the update to iOS14.2 I can't open password protected xlsx Excel sheets in mail app anymore that I am receiving by email. I always get the note "Decryption failed (null)."
(Opening the file with Numbers app works fine)
Does anybody has the same problem or even a better a solution for that? :-)

The appropriate procedure for working around this issue has been posted in this thread several times.
No need to copy the file,
1)Make sure the excel app is installed
2) Simply ignore the initial request for the doc password and click the box with the up arrow in the top right of your screen
3) Select “open in” or “open with” and choose excel.
4) excel will ask for the pw and viola. You’re in.
It stopped working after SW update of APPLE. So don’t ever say it is not on Apple. Or do you work in Apple support where useless support people can never understand a problem even a simple one?

I am also unable to open password protected Excel files on my iPhone since the recent update to IOS 14.2. I have no problem opening them on my Windows 10 PC. Opening them on my iPhone used to work fine. I have found no solution.
Thank you but that requires having the appropriate app installed which wasn't a requirement before Apple broke it. Before this last iOS update we could open password protected files without having the file program (MS Word, MS Excel, etc.) installed. What you provided seems to be the work-around, we're all seeking a permanent fix back to how it was working a couple of weeks ago.

Mail app isn't a third party app ;-)
And I think it has nothing to do with Mail app, it's the core function of iOS to open password protected excel sheets that is broken in iOS 14.2
Office apps. Excel, Word and PowerPoint. None are working with the internal viewer.
Yes, this works, but I can't tell everybody just to send me old xls files :-)

Follow the recommendation provided above.....get the Excel App....once installed, it is one extra step to open the file.
What about all the other locked files, like on Word and Adobe and PowerPoint? Apple needs to fix this if they expect the business community to remain loyal.
