Apple Cinema Display 30’’ with M1 Apple Silicon Mac

Hello,

I am wondering if someone has already connected successfully the old but still wonderful Apple Cinema Display in its native resolution (2560x1600) to one of the new Apple Silicon M1 computer through USB-C link ?

I am interested in buying the brand new M1 ship Apple Mac Mini.

I remember that a solution had been found for the Mac Mini 2018 Intel based line through the USB-c link.

Thanks for your feedback !

Regards

I have 30” Cinema Display and a 2018 MacBook Pro connected to it via a Henge dock and I can use the full resolution. However when I unplug the pro and plug in my m1 MacBook Air I do not get the full resolution. I haven’t spent any more time of on it than that brief try so I’m unsure if the MacBook Air can drive this screen.

Update: I didn’t see the comment about the option key to see the full list of resolutions so I tried this an it works!

To be clear: I have this Stone - USB-C Multi-Port Desktop Hub for MacBook - Mini DisplayPort, Ethernet Port, Power Supply, 3 USB Ports, USB-C Port, SD Card, and Headphone/Speaker Connections https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076W7GVFY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_.sG-FbH6WMSNX?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

and it’s plugged into the original cable and power brick that came with the screen.

hope this help!

Hi Jbd2u2,

Can you please give us à feedback after a few weeks ?

I would like to buy the OWC th3 dock which includes the MiniDP Link.

I guess this the one you have ?

Do you have sometime to disconnect / reconnect the display in order to make it functions with the M1 Mac ?

Specially when the computer is on sleeping mode and you need to awake it ?

In my case, I have to disconnect the UpTab link.

Yes....I do have the OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock......but I'm still awaiting my "As new" original Apple MiniDidplyPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter...which is, Literally out to sea, a few weeks away on a Literal "Slow boat from China., where eBay found a fair size stash which never left their packaging. I don't want to hook up th OWC until I I have all my connectors in-hand. Still awaiting photos of any successful hook-ups with ACD 30" and 23" displays, glowing away on a desktop!!

Thanks to all the amazing crop of Apple Support Communities participants! Hopefully, Apple-inc has learned something as to their stated goal to solve this part of the M1 "revolution." Carry on Y'all.....Cheers!! jbd2u2

An update for anyone who is interested. I got my 30" ACD working on my Macbook Air with the display port (the 2014 Air only recognises the Lightning/DisplayPort connection intermittently ever since Big Sur update). This indicates the purchased USB-C to DisplayPort cable is not working as sold. It could be the USB-C on my new Mac Mini but as I have presently no way of testing that I'll go with the cabling.

Hi, would it be possible for you to take a picture so that i can understand how you connect these between your Apple 30 inch cinema display to 2020 Mac Mini M1 ?

I have original Apple Dual Link DVI adapter, assuming i will get this same USB-C to Dual Link DVI adapter from Microcenter. i am tying these without understanding their functions at all.

Thank you very much.
