HomePod Mini Internet Connectivity Issues

I am having issues with HomePod mini not connecting to the internet. My other HomePods have no issue when I ask a question etc. But when I ask one or both of the HomePod mini's it says " I am having trouble connecting to the internet.

I followed the trouble shooting steps apple provides but it goes back to "I am having trouble connecting to the internet." after a couple of hours. Then it is normal again.

If anyone has a solution or has also experienced this issue?

Have you tried this. I know this only works on devices using English.

go to the home app on device associated with homepods.

tap on the little house top left.

go to home settings.

tap on your picture, or if no picture, on your name.

turn off, then turn on “recognise my voice” follow very quick set up feature and this might fix it. It worked for me and I hope it will for you.

I am having the same issue. I bought a pair of HomePod Minis, and both of them will play music when directly transfered from the iPhone, but any voice commands to Siri are only met with a message that she cannot connect to the internet. Both HomePod Minis are doing this, and no other electronics in the house have any WiFi issues at all. It is very frustrating to have spent $200 for these devices--plus I bought a subscription to Apple Music!--only to have a key feature of the product not work. I hope that engineers are working on a software fix for this ASAP, or replacement products for its customers if the issue is hardware-based. As a lifelong Apple user and customer, I expect more from this company.

Has anyone tried this combo Modem/Router, or any Linksys Router: Linksys High Speed DOCSIS 3.0 24x8 AC1900 Cable Modem Router, Certified for Xfinity by Comcast and Spectrum by Charter (CG7500)

I'm ready to try a new modem/router combo. My Netgear Nighthawk is not playing well. I'm not that well versed in all of the settings, like SSID, etc. Also don't know the brands to try that have relatively inexpensive (sub $300) Combos. Just want to get it to consistently work. Any suggestions in this area would be appreciated.

I too have the same issue with the paired homepod minis working for a time and then they just stop working. One will work and the other one just works from time to time. I spent 1 1/2 hours restarting, repairing, reinstalling, updating, etc with apple. Now one homepod will do hey siri, transfers phone calls, but the other one just works part of the time. No music from my phone will play??? The last apple support person had no idea and suggested I replace them both.

I had the same issue. As soon as i have connected them they almost immediately started dropping connection. I couldn’t play even one song without the homepod the stop half way through the song so i did some digging. I discovered that they mostly prefer 5ghz frequency. I am in uk and my router comes from BT. These current BT routers do not allow you to split bands, so you cant have 2 independent bands therefore you cant set up 2 independent wifi networks. If both bands are turned on they work as a kind of hybrid/combined network so any devices in your home will switch to whichever they find is more optimal. But there are some devices like my yamaha yas soundbar( and of course the homepod mini) that gets confused about this combined dual band setup and cannot find the 2.4 ghz frequency. The soundbar just gets confused and is always serching. Anyway, i believe it is a somewhat similar situation with the homepod minis. So on your router if you have both bands turned on the homepod will attempt possibly at some point to connect to 2.4 ghz at which point it will drop the connection. For me the solution was to turn of the 2.4 band and only keep the 5 one open. The result was instant. No more drops in connection. I can now airplay for hours and Siri also works without any problems. If this doesn’t work for you you may want to de-register and re -register your home pod.

Apologies if this was suggested before or if my description is not technically accurate but this worked for me instantly.

Your issue seems to be different from most of the people here because the most common the thing reported is that the unit will stream music but doesn't respond to Siri commands. In your case, from what you were saying the connection is dropped completely.

The HomePod mini has connection problems if you have a regular and a 5G connection on your router. In the past week after I bought it, the HomePod switches to the non-5 g network after being idle for a while. Tried dropping to a single network and that seemed to be better but still dropped. Need a way to hand code an internet connection into the Hompod. Return back to Alexa, even though I do not trust Amazon. I have multiple Macs, iPhones, iPads and Apple TV's in my house and am a CTO in a company. Worst Apple product , sorry to say.

The word is that new software updates are being released today. I'm hoping that this fixes the issue with my three minis. Will respond here later if an update is released.

Note: I live in Germany and use Telekom as my provider. I have read through this thread and seen the comments regarding this configuration. My fingers are crossed Apple has been working with Telekom on a fix and that it is included. I would guess that any fix provided for Telekom/HomePod Mini would also work for other routers.

@francofornia - I use an Eero Pro system that is pre-6, (802.11AC) and it works 100% of the time with my HomePods. I'm using the default dual-band (2.5GHz and 5Ghz) with no trouble on HomePod and HomePod mini. I doubt very sincerely that the presence of Wifi v6 matters, as the Mini is constrained to 802.11N. The big HomePod uses 802.11AC.

It's definitely not a wifi 6 issues as my Linksys Velop MX10 system is also wifi 6 and I haven't had any issues with the new system in place. It almost sounds to me like your settings on your main network are not "standard" and perhaps there is a setting or security protocol that differs from your guest network that the mini simply isn't compatible with.

I would definitely see about getting Apple Support or Eeros support involved in that. Maybe they can help you pinpoint what it is.

I will say the 14.4 update is nice so far and the new handoff features are pretty cool.

I'm back in love with the response time, sound quality, and ability to play my personal Playlists on my 2 minis! My lights and other Homekit Accessories respond quicker than my Google Mini's ever did. I also see that at least for lights/scenes, you seem to be able to chain commands (at least if they are similar. Need to test that more.

The 14.4 update seems to have fixed them. Not a single drop on a Netgear Nighthawk combo modem/router.

I don't want to put them on a T-Ball stand and swing for the fences anymore! Hope the fix worked for all.
