HomePod Mini Internet Connectivity Issues

I am having issues with HomePod mini not connecting to the internet. My other HomePods have no issue when I ask a question etc. But when I ask one or both of the HomePod mini's it says " I am having trouble connecting to the internet.


I followed the trouble shooting steps apple provides but it goes back to "I am having trouble connecting to the internet." after a couple of hours. Then it is normal again.


If anyone has a solution or has also experienced this issue?

I am having the same issue.. I have 3 home mini and they are all have the same problem they loose connectivity after 24 hours. The only resolution is a power cycle.. They are connecting to a cisco 2702i-z-k9 AP on 5Ghz channel 36 with 80mhz wide. RSSI -44db SNR 49db and you can ping the HomePodMini This same AP has Iphones Ipads AppleTV and Even Home Pod and all these function with no issues (all these devices connect at 802.11ac). Only the 3 home pod mini are loosing connection (they connect at 802.11a) . They are still associated to the AP. They loose connectivity to network. You can NOT ping the HomePodMini. My DHCP Lease time is 1 day. Could this be a DHCP renewal issue as time correlates ?. I can still Airplay to them when the issue occurs but the stereo pair does not work. After a power cycle all 3 work perfectly for about 24 hours before the issue reoccurs. After doing some captures (see below) I have noticed that the home pod mini reports channels on 5Ghz that are NOT available in AUSTRALIA 120,124,128 I would have thought the setup process via the IPHONE would have set the WiFi region in the home pod mini from the WiFi region from the phone. Is this NOT the case ?? Is this a bug ? Looking forward to a software update to fix this issues as getting sick of rebooting every day.

After talking to Apple support for a day they have no solution. From what they told me because it is an issue with my router and no their product there is nothing they can do about it.


This was very frustration to hear. My router is not even two years old and it is shocking that it can't handle the HomePod Mini. As of 11/23/2020 Apple has no solution except get a new router. I doubt they will issue a fix for this.


I would completely understand if anybody wanted to return it and get an Echo or some other smart home product. Because to spend $200 on the HomePod Mini's and spending ANOTHER $200 on router you could have just got the normal HomePod and save yourself money and get a better experience.


Apple needs to issue a statement or warning regarding networking specifications or something.

Multiiser and recognize my voice is, currently, only available when HomePod is configured for English.

Sounds like a different issue that’s been described in this thread.


For all of us the trouble has been after our Minis were successfully set up. The Mini would work for a little while and then when you asked Siri for something she would complain she didn’t have a connection to the internet. The only way to “fix” the problem was to reboot your router and/or Mini. It seems this may have been fixed in iOS 14.4.


If I’m not mistaken it sounds like you have a different issue - you cannot set up your Mini on your home network. If that’s right, it might be best to start a new topic or look for one that’s more similar to what you are experiencing. I quickly looked and found this:

I have the same problems here with the homepodmini and the Asus BlueCave. After a few hours of not using the homepodmini, Siri always have problems with the connection. AirPlay is no problem all the time.

After reading these thread, i changed some settings in my BlueCave and now, the homepodmini is fully usable since 3 days! Hopefully, you can change it like me:

  • Set the DHCP-Leasetime to 28.800 seconds (8 hours) - before, it was set to 86.400 seconds (1 day)
  • Disable "SmartConnect" or in other routers it is sometimes named "BandSteering" - this normally gives a device the message, to switch from 2,4 GHz to 5 GHz or otherwise - when disabled, every device would chose the frequency itself
  • My WiFi for 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz have both the same name


Since i made this settings, my mini automatically connects to my 5 GHz WiFi and runs without errors :)

The HomePods are prone to acting up if you have wifi with Dual Bands. The typical symptom is “ it’s not my wifi because everything else works”. It causes them keep hopping around 2G, 5G and so on, in an attempt to get the higher speed. This causes many disconnects during the switch over to one or the other. Changing the settings to not have the 5G be the default helps. You can still use 5G

In the meantime you can:

  • Reboot your wifi router
  • Or Restart HomePod:

Open the Home App - go to the Room it’s in 

Long press on the HomePod icon to bring up settings, scroll down to the gear icon, tap that, scroll to the bottom to Reset HomePod - then select Restart HomePod

Same here, I have 3 minis, they all have that problem, have tried everything, restarting, resetting various times, restarting the router, switching from 2.4 to 5 Ghz on the router and using just the one and the other... Have had the regular Homepod since launch and never had that problem! It‘s so annoying... hope they‘ll fix it fast in a Software update!

Just to tell everyone, I am still having the same issue. Apple suggested that I wipe my router out completely (reset to default that is). I tried this and I was hopeful because it lasted a whole day.


I woke up this morning, tried it again same dumb error message. The only thing that worked was swapping my router out for a new one. I refuse to do this because me personally I believe that Apple's Products should work with any router that was at least manufactured in the last 5 years.

I again hope Apple can release a fix because it most likely a bug issue. As far as I know I was the only one to report this issue on Day 1 launch and Day 2. Might help push it up if others call and report.

I am also having this issue. I spent close to two hours with Apple Customer Support yesterday to no avail. They were far from knowledgeable on issues relating to the Homepod mini set up and connection. I also spoke with a senior who was better informed but could nevertheless not resolve the issue. It seems a lot of people will have to return this faulty product.
