Safari freeze when create a password in safari or reset a password

When I try to create an account and reach to the “create a password”, my safari is freeze, can’t move; I need to close the safari then reopen it to continue using it. But the problem about password still exist. Same for resetting a password for an account. Is this a iOS system problem or my phone problem? I have this problem in my iPad too. Is that I upgraded the 14.2 iOS too fast when it release? Is there a way to fix it?

It seems that if you go to Settings —> Passwords —> AutoFill Passwords, then toggle off AutoFill Passwords, that Safari no longer freezes when you attempt to enter a Password on account creations. Safari Private Browsing also seems to be unaffected by the freezing on password creation entry regardless of whether AutoFill Passwords is turned on or not.

I have the exact same issue with my iPhone 12 with iOS 14.3. My iPad doesn’t show the same issue. It only happens when I’m signing up to a new account using Safari and it doesn’t happen when I’m simply logging-in into an existing account. When I try to type a new password, safari freezes completely, up to the point the app closes. I guess it’s an issue with the password recommendation. Indeed, the solution of going to private browsing works for me. Also, if I turn off password auto filling, the problem disappears. I hope this issue is solved soon by a software update.

Ok, same issue on ipadOS 14, and I finally found how to fix this weird password issue. Shame on you Apple for letting your customers dealing with such a bug !

In order to fix it you must allow keychain storage on icloud on your idevice: go to configuration > icloud > keychain (“trousseau” for french users), enable it (you might be asked to enable two way authentication for that).

Wait few seconds/minutes for the sync, and that’s it - no more freezing with safari on password forms.

enjoy!

This is what worked for me.. go to Settings -> Passwords -> Autofill Passwords -> Autofill Passwords.. Disable this.. this will stop autofill and safari password fields should prompt/work as normal.. if u notice, navigating to this menu itself freezes iphone.. so something is wrong with this setting but I dont use autofill and disabling this helped me.. hope this helps!

been fighting with this all night. Found also was getting a long delay when try to switch on or off the autofill password box.

eventually sorted it out by enabling 2 factor authentication on my AppleID, which had to be done first on the AppleID web page because I already had 2 step verification enabled which had been screwing with things. Having done this I have tried creating a couple accounts on random websites and no hanging so far.

We are having this issue as well on dozens of iPads recently updated to iOS 14.2. None of these iPads have an iCloud account. When we set up an iCloud account on one of them, the problem stopped. It stayed "fixed" even when we signed out of the iCloud account. We have not been using private mode. We do NOT see the problem occurring in Chrome. It appears that the new "feature" when Safari recommends passwords may be the culprit. It appears Safari can't do this without and iCloud. When private mode is enabled for a session then it appears the checking is bypassed.

Is anyone else here using iOS 14 without an iCloud account?

I had the exact same thing on my iphone 7, any webpage requiring a password, it would freeze, private browsing was not affected but i found that if I enabled two factor authentication on my phone the issue went away, i could enter passwords without freezing, and after I checked the password freeze was gone, i followed the instructions in the email to disable two factor authentication and changed my password, the issue did not come back, so if you have not got two factor authentication activated, enable it, check the password freeze issue has gone then revert back if you dont want to keep two factor authentication (following the email info links) and enjoy!

I agree, it's not just Safari, pretty much any app that requires a password input is freezing the screen up. I have found generally though, if you just wait about 30 seconds to a minute (on the frozen screen), then it seems to unfreeze itself and if you click on the password box it then allow you to input it, however if you click anywhere else (other than the password box) on the screen, it freezes up again and you have to wait another 30+ seconds for it to unfreeze.

It's very annoying. I hope there is a fix for this in soon.

Well I finally think my bug is fixed!

my ip7+ has the issue my wife’s 7+ doesn’t and my daughters 8 doesn’t

we all on the same iOS version and after checking every single setting the only thing that differed was they had two factor authentication ON while mind didn’t, I enabled it on my device (knowing I can revert back within 2 weeks if it’s not for me) and everything is fine, I have not had one freeze with a password since enabling two factor authentication and I mean standard safari not private browsing!

Keychain was already enabled on my iPad so I turned it off and back on again. Then it forced me to put in a passcode, which I really didn’t want to do,...but in the end it worked and I can sign in to any website quickly again. Thank you!

And I agree - Shame on Apple. I can’t believe they can see that they have watched over 2100 customers have this problem and are doing nothing about it. Actually I can. Apple has always had terrible customer service.
