Safari freeze when create a password in safari or reset a password

Hi! I've got it working, so far, using Safari in private browsing mode. But, I know that hasn't worked for everyone. This is such a huge bug. I can't believe they haven't fixed it yet.

Private browsing does indeed get around this problem. Good call. Thanks for this. Although I would prefer to use the non private browser, this is a good interim fix. And, in fact, it is probably a good idea to start private browsing, anyway. I may just continue, even if an update fixes this problem.

This issue seems to be connected with passwords auto fill. If you go to settings/password/autofillpasswords and toggle it off the you won’t get the freezing. Once toggled back on the freezing comes back.

Also the issue seems to be throwing a “bug type 288” code on analytics data. This is under setting/privacy/analytic&improvements

I have no idea on the why or how. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can figure this out.

For me this trick does not work, and also putting my iPad into private mode on safari still didn’t work 😢.

I am now currently on an iPad Air 4 and am on iPadOS 14.3 and this password glitch is really frustrating!

But this glitch isn’t only on Safari, it’s actually in many apps (and in apps that apple didn’t make), even in the settings App! If you click on almost anything related to passwords, the app will just freeze and crash, and it doesn’t let you ever write your password! Which means that you can’t even sign up into a new app or a website! Apple really needs to fix this as soon as possible, and this has been a problem from over a month ago with iPadOS 14.2, and in iPadOS 14.3 this still is a problem and they haven’t fixed it. Hopefully they fix this problem, because it is very annoying. 

My iphone does the same thing and started only after update.. only happens on some password entry or re-enter password. Specifically happened on irs.gov as well as columbia gas website login when i was changing passwords. It would freeze for a few minutes and safari would be totally unresponsive, iphone would still let me home key out but safari would be locked completely for those 3 minutes or so.. and was recreated multiple times after phone reboot, network reset, web data removed, content blockers toggled, all experimemtal features off, desktop site requested and on mobile.. no changes... is odd that it will actually go through though eventually but if you clicked anywhere or anymore than once during the wait then your patience was even further tested by closing the dialog box. Which would free the webpage up until you clicked the fill password box again...

I'm having the same problem. It's 100% reproducible.

My current workaround is to simply use Google Chrome as my browser, but that's a suboptimal solution and certainly doesn't make Apple look great...

It's April 1, 2021, and I still have this issue. It's any site where you fill in info. Doesn't matter if it's a password, social security number, or what, the entire screen freezes. I've been switching to the Ecosia browser. Works fine there. May make Ecosia my default browser on my iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Using private browsing corrected the issue for me. Just a hassle to do it.

Apple, please get a fix !

If you use private browsing, the issue does not occur either.

Switch to private browsing

Temporary fix is to enable private mode while using safari.

Open safari, on the bottom right there will be a two square icon. Touch that, when it opens, choose private on the bottom left.

Try using a different browser. I use Ecosia. Also try Private browsing mode.
