Gift Card already redeemed Issue

Hello

I just bought a $50 Apple gift card from Target, I unsealed it, scan the code using my camera, and it says it's already been redeemed. How is that possible?? Support tell me 'your code has no value, it was already redeemed by another account and we cannot tell you by whom". Unbelievable!! It feels like a total scam! And apparently there's nothing to do! Really unbelievable that a company like Apple uses/don't do anything against scam like this...

I ran into the same issue where I have purchased three $50 from Walmart Market that were redeemed. and unusable. I called Apple Support and the best advice they had was if the cards were purchased with a Debit/Credit card then reach out to the card merchant and report fraud and stolen card value and hopefully they'll refund the cost back to the card. I asked if they could tell me the date it was used, what software was purchased, iOS App, subscription charged against it or to which Apple iTunes email/acct it was applied to and she told me they had NO WAY OF SEEING WHAT the cards were used for which I find extremely odd since these would have a high likelihood of being added to someone's iTunes Acct in which requires a login and then the card info added to the iTunes acct to be charged against. We know there are instances that this information could be provided & the amt could be charged back against that thief's iTunes acct or debited from the card connected to their Apple ID etc and covered in the terms and conditions a disclaimer ref stolen APPLE Gift Cards applied to their accounts, especially when the rightful owner can provide the card, the card envelope, the sales receipt, verify the card used to purchase belongs to the person making the claim etc. There are many ways the purchaser who had no control over the theft but seeing the big picture, why should APPLE care, they're getting their money regardless so no loss to them, just tell the consumer to go buy another one and good luck next time. It's a poor and greedy business practice. Home Depot requires the purchaser to scan their DL or ID card and add their mobile number at the time of issue which automatically registers it to that person and upon redeeming the card you must provide the same information to prevent this kind of fraud and theft. The technology has been developed & implemented for at least 2 years now & the POS software is available and ready to be used by much smaller companies outside of the tech industry. If APPLE was on the losing end then they'd have implemented a cure for the disease long ago but Gift Card Fraud only hurts their consumers and increases their profits with additional sales with us buying more cards when needed. APPLE, you need to do better than this.

Such a disappointment to see so many people with the same complaint/frustration. It is clearly a problem that apple is fully aware of, yet intentionally chooses not to address. Meanwhile...Apple and Target intentionally continue to sell gift cards and bury their heads in the sand. Is this a legal way to steal from the very people who have made these two corporations successful? Such a disgraceful way to to business.

This just happened to me today. I bought a $100 gift card and two $50 gift cards from Walmart. The two $50 gift cards were already activated. And the $100 gift card worked OK. Total bullshit that I’m out $100. I agree with the other posters that I give these as gifts around Christmas time. Pretty sucky to give a gift that’s already been spent.

Just purchased a $100 at Walgreens and received a message that it had already been redeemed. Is Apple recycling their codes off the cards? Maybe they need to switch to bar scan codes instead of an input of alphanumeric!

Went back to Walgreens and manager gave me a schpiel about a second code off of a receipt which is not the case it turns out. It just proves the card is purchased and has been electronically activated.

I hope my advice could help out. Albertsons gift cards can be used in-store and online at Albertsons. Most gift cards can also be used at other Albertsons brands like Safeway, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Pavilions, Vons, and Carrs. Check your gift card to verify the stores that it is eligible at. Still, you are not able then you need to contact the Albertsons store for a help desk and well Albertson Return Policy might let you return it back.

I have exactly the same issue. I've purchased a $100 gift card for my wife at either CVS or Target about a year ago. She tried to use it when she tried to purchase her Apple Watch online (through apple.com). Due to connection error or something, she was not able to complete her PO back then. Since the PO didn't gp through, we never imagined that our apple gift card was redeemed or anything. A few months later, we went physically to Apple Store in a near mall to purchase her Apple Watch. Then, we noticed that our $100 card was in the status of 'already redeemed' when the shop clerk tried to redeem it. We have been trying to claim our $100 back since then, but no progress.

I did get some movement on this. No refund. You can forget that. But I did discover that Target has a different process on how they activate the cards. Odds are you probably went through self-check out when you made your purchase. The Apple cards sold by Target have two barcodes. One at the top and one at the bottom. The one top has to be scanned first before the one on the bottom. This activate the card. Target is the only one that does this. The clerk showed me when I went to go make a purchase

I just tried to use 2x$25 cards that were from a Costco 4x $25 pack. 1 redeemed and 1 says already redeemed. I have a feeling there is some gift card mining going on. Someone has probably developed some software that can enter 16 digit random letter/number combinations continuously. Every combination that has been activated will be redeemed. Don’t sit on your gift card people. Make sure they are redeemed promptly. Better to gift cash.
