HDMi to dvi on new mac mini does not work

2 days ago , i recieved a Mac Mini M1.

HDMI to DVI did not work.

Called Support , told me to send M1 back. Monday I will get a new one.

Asked them , could it not be an overall problem. They laughed with me. On that time I had four people of support on the telephone, they all told me my M1 was defect. "Send it back" Now I read on the net that it is an overall problem. USB-c to DVI would work.

The support people did not know there job my believing. If I had bought my computer in the ALDI I could understand that they did not know, but for certified APPLE support people this is not done.

i try to get compensation I have to buy usb-c to dvi adapter.

I can not understand why apple did NOT test that ???????

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

Found a Solution.... The Star-tech powered 3 in 1 adapter worked! I was able to setup dual monitor DVI. one with a USB-C to DVI and one with the StarTech.com Travel A/V Adapter 3-in-1 HDMI to DisplayPort VGA or DVI - HDMI Adapter - 1920 x 1200 (HD2DPVGADVI). Since it is powered, it converts the signal. Powered the USB with a USB brick since I only get 2 on the Mac mini. Works great! Frustrating but now I get 2 monitors without using a USB video driver and don't have to replace my monitors and KVM.

Did not get the replacement mini yet but they already prepared me for it probably would not fix the issue, Is is more about getting the unit back to the engineers so they can try to figure the problem out. And yes, is does mean redoing everything as a new machine. Have you or anyone installed the latest Big Sur update 11.1 and seen if this fixes the problem? I installed but have not had a chance to test yet...

MyApple8... please stop leaving specs that everyone is aware of. The spec you conveniently left out is the one where it clearly states that the M1 supports DVI. So it doesn't matter how old the tech is. If Apple didn't want to support old tech, it would not have listed it on their spec sheet. And like raffwal said, the Apple DVI adapter does not work.

To the people speculating that HDCP is the issue, is there any hard evidence of that? Are there any reports of DVI monitors working with a DVI to HDMI adapter? The only reports I have seen are USB-C to HDMI or HDMI to HDMI, both of which appear to have no problems. But I have not seen anyone reporting that a DVI to HDMI connection works, even on a newer DVI monitor.

Please report this to Apple here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macmini.html

This is what I told them:

I bought a new Mac Mini on December 26. The HDMI connection did not work with two older DVI monitors using two different cables. After conferring with Apple support, we returned it for a new Mac Mini, but the problem persists. USB-C to HDMI works. Turns out Apple support boards, Reddit, and MacRumors have discussions about this, and the users seem to have narrowed it down: monitors that support HDCP work with DVI to HDMI, but ones not supporting HDCP do not. Three different Apple support technicians had no idea there was even an issue. Several of us were told it would be escalated to engineering, but still no one seems to know. Please show this to your engineers & support people, please announce this incompatibility publicly, and please find a fix! Thank you. We wasted 2 days on this.

Again, see my post above, my monitor DOES support DHCP on DVI and doesn't work with the M1. There is maybe a combination of factors.

We should list here the monitors who work or not, with technical specification.

I'll start :

Model : Dell UltraSharp 2707WFP

HDCP : YES

Native resolution : 1920 x 1200 60 Hz (Mode VESA CVT-R)

Horizontal : 30 kHz to 81 kHz (automatic)

Vertical : 56 Hz to 76 Hz, except 1680 x1200 and 1920 x 1200 (60 Hz only)

does not work with Mac mini HDMI->DVI
