Can't copy web image and paste into messages after Big Sur upgrade.

Just like the title says. I used to be able to copy an image from a website or page, Facebook for example, and then directly paste into an imessage on my Mac. Since the upgrade, this went away. Why?

Agreed. It works fine from Safari but not Chrome. "Paste" is grayed out in the popup menu when coming from Chrome. I can, however, crtl-v and that works. It is clear the image made it safely to the clipboard but Big Sur is treating them differently for some reason.

So, the only official response from Apple, which was a pedantic suggestion/explanation of how to copy/paste from NOVEMBER 29th, there has been no other explanations why problems persists.

Was this change by Apple intentional? If so, why? The work-around to this silliness is you have to save any image you want to copy, instead of copying it, then select it from where you saved it, copy it, and THEN you copy it and paste it into messages.

If I was a conspiracy nut, I'd say they want you to save a bunch of images you don't want to keep, forget about them, and then have to pay for more iCloud storage.

Sounds ridiculous...if only we could get a real response to why this is how it is with Big Sur. We're WAITING.

Hello clark4131 and welcome to Apple Support Communities. It appears you are having some difficulty copying an image from a website into a message using the Messages app on a Mac.

If you Control-click (or right-click) on an image, if it is copyable—as opposed to only a link to the image being copyable), you'll see an option near the bottom of the contextual menu called Copy Image.

Once copied, testing in both iMessages and SMS/MMS formats are being sent and viewed as images.

Cheers.

I'm having the same issue. However, if I goto Google Images and search the term, "bag" for instance, there are random images I can paste. Almost all Reddit images I cannot paste. I thought maybe it was the type of image file but some JPEG's I can paste and some I can't. Size doesn't seem to have anything to do with it but I need to do more testing.

My older Macbook with BigSur has no issue copy/pasting though with the same exact images.

This is super frustrating.

This is only with iMessaging/SMS forwarding. I can paste any image into Notes, for example. Also, when I goto Activity Monitor and Kill pboard it will sometimes allow me to paste the images I wasn't able to before but it always goes back to not letting me. Same with when I do "killall pboard" via the Terminal.

It is frustrating - this feature was a major method for my communications with clients and friends.

The only reliable work around I know is to save a photo clipped with Preview and then to import it into PHOTOS.

That's a very slow workaround, but it's the only thing that works for me.

CMD-V does not work for me
