I just transferred to a new iMac with Catalina and notice that when I open rules to edit my color-coding for emails, none of the rules in the list have their colored background. Normally I would see the list of rules with the colors I have set for each rule, but now I don't see the color. When I click to edit one of the rules, all the colors in the list return. Why is this and how to I fix it so it works the way it used to work?

But I think you misunderstood. I know how to use rules for color-coding mail. I have been doing it for years and it works fine on my old iMac and laptop.
I got got a new iMac and the rules are there but the colors in the list of rules disappear when I restart Mail or the computer. If I then click on a rule and click on “edit,” all the rules reappear.
It is some kind of glitch and I wonder if this has happened to others. More importantly can anyone tell me how to fix this. It is annoying because I look for the rule I want to edit by the color. I have about 30 of them.
Is there any other reports of this in Catalina? It is a brand new 2020 iMac, why would there be an issue with Mail? Also, if there is, what would the solution be?
I have a lot of Mail and would hate to have it downloaded a second time on my iMac, unless that is the last resort.

In this case, take a look at this document: Use rules to manage emails you receive in Mail on Mac. Try creating your a new set of rules in a test user to see if there is an issue with Mail in your current user. For help with creating a test user, follow these steps: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.
