M1 Mac mini display issue

I received my M1 Mac mini on Tuesday and didn't experience any problem until today. Turned it on and noticed some small pink squares moving around my monitor. They would change position as I opened a folder or right clicked on something. After changing the stock wallpaper they disappeared. I also switch my HDMI cable just because, but I've been using this HDMI cable with other devices with no problem what so ever. Hoping it's not a hardware issue as this is a brand new unit. Has anyone dealt with similar problems?

After another week with this problem I have discovered that the issue completely resolves (for me at least) when I move the Mac Mini a meter away from all peripherals (monitor and bluetooth keyboard & mouse). Could this be a proximity interference issue? The pink artefacts at boot-up and during the login screen have completely vanished after this 'experiment'.

Ive contacted Apple. The response I got was this.

“At this time, this is not an issue Apple has escalated as trending. A service provider would have to inspected it to determine if it is hardware or software. “

they told me to try reinstall the OS. Which I have tried. The person I spoke with said they have no way to reference this. Discussion. I asked to escalate the issue and was told I’d get a call later today. I’ll follow up with what is said. Bummer they seem to not be real concerned about a very clear reported issue.

I wonder why there is no reports from users on YouTube about the display pink pixel box issue?

Hey everyone, I just bought my M1 Mac Mini today (8GB/256GB) and got a minor display issue after restarting it for the first time. Basically a series of small pixels across the lower portion of the background dropped out, our would shift when I opened menus and moused over apps icons in the dock. Prior to the first restart the only thing I did was install Adobe CC, Photoshop & Illustrator. I was able to "erase" the pixels that dropped out by opening Safari and just moving the window over the dropped pixel areas - like erasing them with the window. Almost as if they only affect the background, but nothing in the foreground. Very strange. I'm using an HDMI cable. Hopefully it won't happen again or often and Apple can work on a solution to this. Will update after some time if it persists.

Things have just got worse for me. The pink squares still happen during boot up, the Mac still flashes a couple times when logging in, but now I also get the snowy screen sometimes when waking up on my primary monitor (unplugging the HDMI and plugging it back in, or killing power to monitor fixes this), and sometimes my secondary monitor will not wake up anymore (this problem can only be fixed by resetting the entire machine). I am not sure what to do anymore, I am hoping at least some of the issues will be fixed in 11.3. It's not right how long these issues have been allowed to persist.

I’ve decided to keep my M1 Mac mini after experiencing these issues... I’m not fully happy obviously but .... to be honest it only happens 1 out of 10 times maybe when I first start the machine and when I start using the computer opening Safari or folders they disappear and never return until I restart again.. I will only return the computer if the pink squares return while I’m trying to work or watch videos which they never have

The same happened to my M1 Mini. I updated to 11.3 and after rebooting I only got a black screen. Nothing was showing anymore, not even the Apple logo at booting or the recovery mode.

The same monitor I have been using ever since I bought the Mini back in December, connected to the HDMI port.

I was only able to resolve the problem by connecting a different monitor. Once I got picture on that one I could connect my normal default monitor again without issues.

So weird, luckily I had a spare monitor laying around.

Had my mac mini m1 main logic board replaced and the display issues are still there. Together with the apple certified technician/engineer at the AASP shop, we were able to replicate the issue even after the MLB was replaced. We used my own display/screen (I brought it to their shop), and two of their displays (different brands and models, one VGA display connected via Apple original multi-AV adapter, one 32-in FHD display connected via HDMI).

I called Apple Support right away, and got the same robotic promises from the senior advisor that they are looking into this, etc. etc. I have already spent roughly 20% of the cost of the M1 16GB I paid for in travel expenses, time spent following up with them, etc. just to have this resolved. This is so unacceptable!

The unit has been with the AASP for 1.5 months now; AASP asked for a replacement MLB from Apple; MLB was replaced; voila! the issues ARE STILL persistent. The Apple-certified engineer told me he does not know what's causing the problem or what the real issue is since the MLB was replaced already, and that the MLB is the only replaceable/serviceable part. There's nothing the AASP could do.

for now it works for you. wait for the next OS update if it stays the same or wait a few days or a couple of weeks. also, I believe, it just masks the underlying hardware-related problem. product description of mac mini M1 plainly says it supports display up to 4k (via HDMI 2.0), etc. There is no disclaimer/disclosure about potential issues/problems with displays, cables, etc. They will force you to buy their "apple-certified" multi-AV adapters, but the problem still persists.
