M1 Mac mini display issue

I received my M1 Mac mini on Tuesday and didn't experience any problem until today. Turned it on and noticed some small pink squares moving around my monitor. They would change position as I opened a folder or right clicked on something. After changing the stock wallpaper they disappeared. I also switch my HDMI cable just because, but I've been using this HDMI cable with other devices with no problem what so ever. Hoping it's not a hardware issue as this is a brand new unit. Has anyone dealt with similar problems?

After another week with this problem I have discovered that the issue completely resolves (for me at least) when I move the Mac Mini a meter away from all peripherals (monitor and bluetooth keyboard & mouse). Could this be a proximity interference issue? The pink artefacts at boot-up and during the login screen have completely vanished after this 'experiment'.

Guys I have same issue.

I met this pink artefacts from the box but that momenta I thought it just a SW bag but then I seen it again and again and two restart with full pink screen before it, without reason, ones when I did files copying, second just web browsing.

And I can see this pink screen when trying to turnoff Mac mini manually using a power button, always pink screen before its going off.

First time in my 15 years of experience with apple devices I can see something like this. But I'm glad what Im not alone and apple soon have to tell us some good news.

Can anyone who also using Mac mini try manually turn off machine using a power button and see if pink screen also will appear

yesterday I went to the apple store and they saw this issue but they send me to the place where I bought this Mac mini. 🤬🤬🤬the most worst experience of apple devise in my life also apple support same as my experience. It’s not a display compatibility it’s a HW issue for sure because at apple store they said need change it in the place where I bought or fix it at any apple store but this device is new so need time from 7 days to 14. I activated it 6 of December. Used it with pain and issues until yesterday and they can’t change it at original apple store I’m really disappointed and of course don’t wanna wait so long because they need to test it. They need check this thread and start to react not just keep silent . First time I went in Genius Bar they found problem and seen it but don’t want to change it. It’s disgusting

A good way for me to cause these artefacts to appear is by logging into the Safari-only Guest account on startup. Mouse movement causes the artefacts to flicker. I'm leaning towards returning this machine. It's distracting and shouldn't be happening. Apple support has no clue what to do about it, and their unwillingness to offer up any solution is putting me off Apple as a brand. Great way to lose customers. This is my first Mac, and it's left a bitter taste in my mouth. I should be enjoying the $1000 AUD machine I just shelled out for - not spending day after day troubleshooting it/wondering if at any moment the GPU is going to fail.

OK. I am done with it and returning my M1 Mac mini. After purple squares on login on my 1080p screens, hooked on a brand new Dell 4K monitor. Seems to be working fine for a few days, now I have flickering on dark areas, small lines, sometimes ghosting or weird color shifts. Monitor works fine on other machines. I tried different cables (hdmi/tb3), bought some new (8K) 0.5 meter ones. Can't trust this is a software issue anymore.

Will try again when M1x/M2 will hit the shelves.. :)

Apple reached out to me yesterday also. I returned mine though so I couldn’t provide logs, although had lots of details and pictures / videos to share.

For me (probably you as well) the mouse travels over the pink squares. I’ve also had white and gray squares, but usually those happened before the OS loaded or in recovery mode while running diagnostics or when reinstalling the OS.

I have a one month old M1 Mac mini and I am having serious issues with the display as well. It is flashing off for a few seconds and them coming back. The computer also has rebooted on its own a few times now. It is getting worse and worse as the days go by. I have changed out the HDMI and use this monitor as a second display for a five year old iMac and my new company owned Dell laptop with no issues. Therefore, the Mac mini is the equipment which is having the problem. I am not looking forward to fighting with Apple to get this corrected. I had an iPhone 4 which started to malfunction within an hour of having the phone out of the store and I had to argue to get Apple to replace the phone.

A reminder of UK consumer law (for those in the UK): Under the Consumer Rights Act, your consumer rights may allow you to get faulty goods repaired or replaced for free up to six years after purchase, although the longer you have had the goods the progressively more difficult it will be to show the defect arose as a result of the state of the goods at time of purchase.

If this is a hardware defect then I feel more than comfortable through my interactions with the support team that I will be able to get a replacement unit and I don't expect Apple to push back against this. As it stands I'm mostly getting pink squares during login, and this isn't a problem that is causing any issues.

I once got a really odd resolution on the HDMI monitor and the whole machine wouldn't shut down, but happily this occurred when I was retrieving logs for the machine for Apple support so I sent the video and logs to them.
