Printers compatible with Big Sur

Does anyone know where I can find a list of printers compatible with Big Sur? Have just updated OS and old printer no longer supported. When I shop for a new printer, none list Big Sur as compatible OS.

Jan Hedlund,

You seem to be tech savvy...do you have a particular router you recommend? I was thinking it was our printer until you said that if you can no longer print from iPhones then it's probably the connection or router. We have had the Nighthawk Mesh Wifi6 since May or so but we cannot print consistently (or at all) and it seems to be since the new router.

Hi Teppy 421,

It is difficult to recommend a certain router, for the simple reason that the requirements are so different from one home or office to another. There are many good routers from the major manufacturers. Even a USD 30 router can work well for 802.11n and a limited coverage. In your case, it is a much more advanced system, where you really have to study the router documentation.

Is it exactly an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600? The 8600 does not appear to be an AirPrint printer (some 86xx printers are, though; see the list in About AirPrint - Apple Support).

I have a Canon TS8220, equipped with Air print and it prints like crap.

Reds come out orange, blues come out purple. There is a totally different board for print settings and it has about 20 different sources for color. It's an All in one printer, the scanner no longer works. I've been using Canon printers for 20 years, but I'm done with them unless they get a printer that works with Big Sur......and pretty quickly.

I have an HP LaserJet Pro MFP 477fdw. I have chatted online with HP consultants. No one is able to provide me with access to a driver that provides the ability to print Pages and WebBrowser landing pages on my printer. I can print emails, and PDF files, but not the new Pages or Safari Browser pages. I get an error message:

Unable to Print File

File is Corrupt

It's not a corrupt file, as I can print it using other Macs that have older versions of OS like Catalina.

Do you have a recommended site for the updated driver for this printer?

Thanks again for you help with the Epson. It works beautifully now.

I also have an iMac at work; after I upgraded to OS 11, Big Sur, the laser printer won't work. It's an HP PageWide Pro 577 dw laser printer. I've tried downloading the driver from the HP page, but still no success. Any advice? It's a rather new printer. It worked so well before the OS update. Thank you.

Hello again,

For the HP PageWide Pro 577dw, did you use HP Easy Start (https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip) or HP Easy Admin (https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Admin.app.zip) from the support page (https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pagewide-pro-577dw-multifunction-printer-series/7439478)?

The HP PageWide Pro 577dw MFP is also mentioned in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a printer supporting the driverless AirPrint technology, so a separate driver should not be required. Drivers/software from the printer manufacturer may or may not add functionality. Have you tested AirPrint from the Mac?

Sorry, cannot provide you with any good advice regarding this HP printer. It would probably be correct to assume that you have tried to reset the printing system.

Hello Jan,

Thank you for your advice. The HP PageWide Pro 577 MFP should have Air Print, but it doesn't show up in the Add Printer, and then the Use drop down menu. Do you know how to test for Air Print?

What happens is the computer sends what I want to the printer, but it never prints. A red flag appears on the side menu printer screen saying the data has been sent to the printer.

I have a Hp ENVY Photo 7855. Worked before the upgrade and now it is sporadic in finding the printer. Most of the time it does not so, I cannot print. I installed the latest driver from 123.hp.com/setup and nothing is working. I even tried it from HP Smart. NO LUCK! I also have an epson artisan 837 and that will not work. So, what printers will work? WHO KNOWS, but I cannot keep buying printers
