"The document could not be saved" on flash drive after updating to Big Sur

Hi everyone,

Since I've updated my iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019) to Big Sur, all of a sudden I can't save changes to an existing Pages file on a flash drive anymore. When I try to save, I get the message "The document could not be saved."

Permissions seem to be in order, I have Read & Write permission for the flash drive.

Saving a file on the HD works just fine. Saving on that particular flash drive worked fine before the OS update. The flash drive doesn't have a physical 'Write Protection' switch or anything.

Does anyone know what I can do to be able to save again?

Thanks and cheers!

Thanks for your quick reply! Duplicating and then saving works, but I'd like to be able to just hit Cmd + S and save without any workarounds.

You may not have that option.

If you want to drill down on the upgrade process—you may have to supply much more back ground information on the state of your computer prior to the "upgrade" , the previous macOS, versions of your older software, dates of older files, etc

How about if you duplicate (Command D) and save the copy.
