4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

I may have "fixed" the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. System Preferences/Bluetooth/Advanced...uncheck "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". The issue was happening all morning (and since I received the M1 Mac Mini) and has stopped since I unchecked the box. I am using a USB Keyboard, so that is how I will wake from sleep. So far, so good though.

I updated my iPhone to iOS 14.4 last night. Since that time, I've had no more of the updateChainPower error: -3903 and I haven't noticed any more flakiness in my Magic Trackpad 2. Bluetooth explorer shows that both my keyboard and trackpad disconnect when not used for a while, but reconnect inconspicuously when I use either one.

This represents and improvement since before. Although I had turned off 2.4 Ghz Wifi and moved my router away from my M1 Mini, doing so had only slightly decreased the BT trouble. This morning, all seems good - but as all of you know, one morning or one day is not long enough to be certain this persistent problem has been improved.

Also, it seems clear to me that the issue where you need to plug in a wired keyboard or mouse/tablet after a restart is a different issue. It still exists — my workaround has been to plug in my Magic Keyboard 2 and sign in that way. When my Mini has fully booted up, I can remove the wire and both keyboard and mouse work (mostly? sometimes? TBD!) after that.

mmulet3,

I think the engineers want to see your iPhone logs because of the iPhone triggering the BT disconnects in certain circumstances. My BT problems were triggered by unlocking/waking my iPhone, with the M1 Mac Mini immediately disconnecting my Magic 2 Mouse and Keyboard. This trigger was pointed out to me by another community member.

It's very good that you're up to date on all your software versions for all your Apple devices. It appears that the latest software updates have addressed the BT issues, but apparently not the mouse/keyboard lags. Maybe there will be an 11.2 RC 4 coming before official release. If you encounter any more problems, it would help everyone if you could submit your issues and system logs to Apple engineering once again.

I have a similar issue with my 3 week old M1 Mini. My bluetooth will sometimes stop working when the mini goes to sleep. The only resolution was too reboot. This morning it couldn't get it to wake so I tried the reboot. Still no luck. I had a spare wireless mouse that I could get to work however when it came time to type my password into the login screen my Apple bluetooth keyboard (it's a seven year old model) would not respond so I was stuck. I tried rebooting, resetting SMC, unplugging all the peripherals, all of the known troubleshooting procedures and still no luck. I then called Apple support and they too could not help to troubleshoot because I needed a keyboard to get beyond the login screen.

I went to plan B and went to my local Target and bought a $10 Logitech USB keyboard. I plugged it in and was finally able to enter my password. I then was able to re-establish my bluetooth connections to my mouse and keyboard. I will be keeping the $10 keyboard just in case this happens again. Bluetooth issues with Big Sur appears to be an issue according the the research I did. APPLE, THIS UNACCEPTABLE! FIX IT!

I have followed this thread for a very long time and experienced some periodic Bluetooth disconnects. I now have installed all available updates and I'm experiencing no Bluetooth issues whatsoever (despite receiving chain power errors). It's my feeling that this issue has basically been solved and anybody experiencing issues likely has other problems. In any event, my M1 Mac mini is working like a dream and I wouldn't discourage anybody from purchasing it at this point.

Good luck to all of you but I'm out of here thank goodness.!

Installed BS 11.2 today (installed iOS/iPadOS 14.4 on all devices yesterday) and sad to say it doesn't make any difference. Still experience a lagging Apple Magic Mouse (to the extent it makes editing a picture, for example, when I need precise positioning, virtually impossible).

What I also noticed is that Bluetooth Explorer only reports link quality for my Apple Keyboard and not for my trackpad and mouse. Very strange.

Purchased Mac mini m1, 16 gig ram, 2TB ssd. Since day one I had this problem. The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and apple keyboard with the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion. Today I have updated to the new OS and immediately noticed it lagging and I do had to get a job done so I switched back to my Logitech wired mouse and keyboard. When will Apple fix this or do I need to return it.

Big Slur 11.2 / Osx 14.4 and with my setup (M1 Mini): improved - but no cigar. Still getting BT drops when listening thru Airpods Pro connected to M1. Thank the heavens I went with wired Corsair hardware for KB/mouse, or I'd be sunk.

But in 11.1, music sounded like it was dragged across a chalkboard first, but in 11.2, music only breaks up for a millisecond every few minutes. Progress?

Note: the problem now only exists when the iPhone is sitting next to the M1 Mini, and with the phone's BT on.

I tried this solution with my MacMiniM1 16MB memory and 1 TB storage running BigSur. It does not work for me.

My current solution is to purchase a hardwired USB Apple OS compatible mouse and keep the Bluetooth apple keyboard connected via the second USB A port.

I find it incredible Apple could release the Mac Mini M1 loaded with Big Sur and not already have known about this issue.

Apple, what date will you post a reliable solution and fix to this problem?

The MacMini computer is useless if one can’t operate it with a reliable mouse and keyboard connection. Apple, your careless and arrogant ignorance is deplorable.

Yes, that typically happens to me even after installing all the updates. I rarely turn my M1 mini off completely. As long as its in sleep mode all the bluetooth connections work. If I turn it off at night, in the morning I have to reconnect the bluetooth devices to re-establish connectivity. So life is fine if I don't power down the M1 mini.

The other issue that's persistent has been waking sleep and not having the LG 4K monitor connected with USB-C come to life. I have to unplug and replug the USB-C cable to wake the screen. The 2nd HDMI monitor comes to life with no problem. I finally solved the LG 4K display issue by connecting an unused Elgato Thunderbolt hub from a MacBook Pro. I connecting the powered hub into the M1 mini USB-C port, then a USB-C cable from the hub to the LG 4K. Now it wakes up just fine.

I am having the same BT issue with my M1 Mini where my apple track pad 2 lost bluetooth connectivity after about a week of use. Had to reboot the Mini to regain connectivity.

I also had issues with the M1 Mini rebooting when it goes to sleep. I have external HDD connected via USB-A and USB-C. To workaround this problem, I had to disable the "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" + "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when display is off." Basically, never put the hard drives to sleep.

Apple needs to fix these problems ASAP.

No, but my hub is inside the LG 27" screen. It was a little problematic when I first got the M1 mac mini but since they issued the updates I've been fine for 99% of the time. Very rarely I get a lag and the "fix" is to plug in the trackpad or keyboard (both apple) into lightning and that fixes it. Much less annoying than when it happened ALL the time..

I've almost forgotten about it now - but your post made me think of it again..

I purchased a Mac Mini with the intel processor last year and I'm having the same issue with bluetooth devices disconnecting for around 30 sec or more. I have spoken to apple about this issue and have taken it for service. I was told they don't have any issues with the bluetooth devices on the Mac mini, if that's the case why are their so many complaints online. After factory resetting my system twice, once from me and also at the apple store the problem still exist, so they ordered a new logic board and guest what? I have tried 3 different keyboards and 4 different headsets all brand names like Logitech, Beats and Sennheiser.

It's still happening and getting worse. I have to call apple back again on Monday. Is the the bluetooth chip or the BigSur OS, something is very wrong. I paid too much money and It's used for business. The worst thing for me is when i disconnect during zoom or other meetings when I'm presenting.
