4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

Mac mini, macOS 11.0

I may have "fixed" the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. System Preferences/Bluetooth/Advanced...uncheck "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". The issue was happening all morning (and since I received the M1 Mac Mini) and has stopped since I unchecked the box. I am using a USB Keyboard, so that is how I will wake from sleep. So far, so good though.

While this may be mere coincidental, I removed the Mac Mini from my wife’s dual monitor Dell setup. While on my original new Dell USB-C monitor I was having a very high rate of disconnections and reconnections of the Magic Mouse 2. While on the dual monitor HDMI setup with an adapter, I was having only one or two disconnections per hour.

I have since connected the Mini to an Apple XDR Display using the Apple supplied Thunderbolt cable and the high rate of Apple mouse disconnections and reconnections have returned.

I have a new Apple Wireless Keyboard, a new Magic Mouse 2, and a new XDR Display connected to the Mac Mini. Nothing else. Seeing that all devices are Apple products and that they are all new, I am hoping that this is just a software issue because I have run out of solutions.

I have the same problem with my M1 MacBook Pro connected to a Samsung WQHD widescreen display via an Anker USC-C hub. The Magic Mouse 2 continually disconnects and eventually reconnects.

Ironically, I’ve had no problem when using my Microsoft Surface Arc mouse or my Logitech MX Anywhere mouse due to. the disconnections impacting my work, only the Apple Magic Mouse 2

I tested bluetooth both on MacBook Air 2018 and my brand new MacBook Air M1. Both running Big Sur. The issue does not reproduce on Big Sur running on MacBook Air 2018. The issue only happens on the M1. It makes my bluetooth headphone cut audio for some seconds repeatedly. Hey Apple please help, I can test and send any logs that might help solve the issue. Anyway congratulations for the fantastic product! Thanks!

Same issue here with a Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse. The connection to the keyboard drops mostly after sleep. I cannot wake up my Mac Mini 2020 M1 16GB 1TB, until I use a wired mouse or wired keyboard to wake the Mac up. Once the mac is awake, it takes another few tries, Magic Keyboard "restarts" until it finally works again. Very frustrating, would be great to gear an official statement, if a bug fix is actually in work by Apple...

Been on with support 4 times. Tried all of the following to get the issue resolved:

    • Remove all BT devices and then re-attach one at a time
    • Removed all other devices from the room the mini is in (e.g. other computers, phones, etc.)
    • Reset the bluetooth module
    • Tried creating another user and running under them
    • Run machine in Safe mode
    • Reinstall the entire OS.

None of the above fixed the terrible jittery bluetooth and drop outs.

So the Mac mini goes back. Shame.

Both my wife and I each have a Mac mini. Hers uses the speakers in her display and mine uses a Bose speaker with Bluetooth for sound. Both have the problems with the keyboard and mouse. I doubt if this is the problem. Apple is supposed to be releasing an update to the OS to 11.1 today and a new version of IOS too so we will see if that fixes any of the issues.

My mac mini also shows signs of the usual suspects noted here-disconnects with Bluetooth mouse and "unifying mouse" as well. A wireless Logitech keyboard worked for precisely 45 minutes. The strangest thing for me was a corded mouse, not responding. The corded keyboard works, so I play with the intermittent mice and hope for a patch soon. If not, I will have to return. Again what's up, Apple?

I’ve reset the Bluetooth module twice on the M1 MacBook Pro, the last time about 20 minutes ago and just had my first Magic Mouse 2 disconnection since.

It is so weird that the majority of issues we’ve had the problem with are with Apple’s own peripherals. I don’t believe I had a single disconnection using third party devices.

I have an appointment with AppleCare on Monday 10a PST. I have tried every possible workaround on this thread and the only thing that remotely works is to turn off wifi, but even with that I have experienced an occasional drop of the Magic Mouse. I do believe it is a 2.4ghz interference issue but not because of the wireless networks or noisy usb cables etc. etc. I believe their Qualcomm chip internally is defective in high numbers. It will be interesting to hear what they suggest on Monday.
