4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

I may have "fixed" the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. System Preferences/Bluetooth/Advanced...uncheck "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". The issue was happening all morning (and since I received the M1 Mac Mini) and has stopped since I unchecked the box. I am using a USB Keyboard, so that is how I will wake from sleep. So far, so good though.

I have an INTEL Mac Mini and my Bluetooth intermittent disconnect issues started with Big Sur. At least once a day, I see that the trackpad stops responding, then the keyboard and I lose sound on my Bluetooth headset. Usually, the keyboard and trackpad return within 10 seconds or so. The sound part is more complex, as sometimes it just switches back fine. Other times, it's like the Airpods refuse to connect and I have to put them back in their case, wait a minute or so, take them out and then they reconnect. Annoying when in the middle of a video call.

Thanks for the input!

I have the exact same issues with my monitors going black yet the cursor remains.

I also had the issue with the screensaver.

I hope they are working on something because even a clean reinstall didn't help.

I'm a developer too and tried to update to 11.2 but that completely ruined my machine and I had to do a clean install.

Each line is a different device. Although I have connected the same devices in both cases (except the iPhone), the same color does not necessarily represent the same device in Apple's built-in and Asus dongle graphs (as already noted in my posting -- unfortunately the graphs don't come with a color legend).

What I wanted to show is there is general difference in performance when comparing built-in and Asus dongle.

Just adding to the list of symptoms ...

I have mine set to use my apple watch to unlock my Mac and every time it prompts my watch for a double click confirmation my AirPods Max disconnect. I then have to choose another output source and re-choose my Airpods to get them to work. This is in addition to the constant mouse and keyboard disconnects. Firmware v67 c17531.

You’re right, mmulet3. I was told once by another advisor that they are graded on resolving the issue on the first call. I guess If they have to escalate or call back, thats a fail. It does make sense given my experience today with the rep wanting to just send me a new mouse rather than try to escalate my feedback back to engineering. I just hate the lack of consistence around acknowledging the issue. I’ve had two advisors tell me it’s documented problem in their emerging issues DB, and two others say that’s not true and they’ve never heard of it.

I mentioned this thread to the advisor I spoke to today, then she proceeded to go on about how none of us are calling in to apple to report the problem and that’s why it’s getting ignored.

Whoa it’s good to see someone else see this behaviour. Did your devices disconnect? Or just stutter/lag?

as per my post the distance didn’t really matter. My guess here is that something related to handoff is causing issues which are potentially temporarily fixed by toggling on/off like you did or by restarting the iPhone (like I did).

I will continue to test this out. Let me know if the problem returns over time.

No I never connected the iPhone to the M1. They're both on the same WiFi and are both using bluetooth though. I don't even think it's a problem with Bluetooth interfering because I tried turning the bluetooth on my iPhone off and the lag continued for at least another 10-15 seconds after turning it off.

It feels like it's something to do with the waking up because it lasts 10-15 seconds every time the iPhone wakes up.

UPDATE: can confirm it's nothing to do with handoff either. I've turned Bluetooth off on my iPhone and the lag was still there. It happens as the iPhone wakes up and lasts for 10-15 seconds.

I then turned handoff off on the M1 and as soon as the iPhone wakes up there's the lag again.

My issue with mouse disconnects doesn't seem related to phone or other devices. I've disabled handoff on everything I own, and the mouse disconnects keep happening. Unlocking my phone or iPad has no affect (doesn't cause a disconnect), and neither do incoming notifications. I've had the mouse disconnect while I was using it, and while my hand was nowhere near it. I have yet to find the common thread.
