4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

I may have "fixed" the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. System Preferences/Bluetooth/Advanced...uncheck "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". The issue was happening all morning (and since I received the M1 Mac Mini) and has stopped since I unchecked the box. I am using a USB Keyboard, so that is how I will wake from sleep. So far, so good though.

Good work.

It's been my experience with Apple over the years that bugs tend to get resolved, either somewhat magically or by updates. I don't think I've ever experienced a single issue that persisted for very long. At the moment every single part of my apple ecosystem is working perfectly which is really something compare with my PC experience of many years ago..

I'm using an LG 33" TV (via a hub with HDMI) as a monitor ... the M1 under About This Mac, shows the monitor as a 73.5 inch (1920 x 1080) LG TV Display. Upon every reboot the edges of the monitor are hidden in the bezel (half menu bar and half dock and edges not visible). I need to go into system settings / displays and underscan the resolution 1.5 clicks to make it fit. Yes, it can be undersacnned but it resets after each reboot. I have not tried other ways of connecting.

While I feel your pain, I cannot agree that Apple products are not reliable. As I have written earlier, I have a brand new M1 MacMini, iPhone 12, a full sized and a mini HomePod, Powerbeats wireless, and an IPad mini. Everything is working more or less flawlessly despite some initial Bluetooth hiccups with the Mac mini, now disappeared. Based on my long experience with Apple, I have no doubt that the majority of people experiencing issues will see these problems fixed. That’s not to take away from anybody’s bad experience but I do not believe this is representative of the vast majority of users like myself.

Alas, that lasted about 10 minutes...just had my first disconnect/reconnect/disconnect/reconnect with my Magic Mouse 2, so Big Sur 11.2 beta 2 does not address the problem :(

Ahh that's a shame. I am not that surprised given that the beta was probably way past the point of getting any fixes discussed with the tech support advisors this past week or two included.... The next beta perhaps.....

But at the moment everyone of my devices is working perfectly. That said, I occasionally get a brief disconnect in the trackpad but it only lasts a couple of seconds.

Well this is exactly the point. A trackpad should never disconnect occasionally. Ive got one on a 2012 iMac, that's been running since then, and it's never disconnected, ever. So for my M1 mini, it's random and impossible to diagnose here. Sometimes my AirPods work perfectly, sometimes not. Never if I walk away a few feet. Yet on the other hand, a Harmon/Kardon Aura 2 works flawlessly. Go figure. (maybe because I have that bubble speaker sitting right on top of the mini?)

"trackpad should never disconnect occasionally"

Well I'm talking about a one second disconnect maybe every three days if that often. In the grand scheme of things I'm not gonna get very worked up about that sorry. Yes it would be nice if they fixed it but if they never do every single other thing about my M1 Mac and every other Apple device I have is working beautifully. I consider that a success

It was not my intent to minimize yours or anybody else's experience. If this was happening to me, as it was earlier, I would be very freaked out as it was getting impossible to work.

That said however, it's very difficult to say how widespread this issue is since they've undoubtedly sold many millions of M1 units. Fortunately, I don't spend all that much time on user forms but I would suspect that every time there is a new hardware there was some kind of issue like this affecting some subset of users..

I know it's upsetting to be one of those impacted but personally, I've been using Apple products for 25 years and I have never experience a single serious bug that would cause me for one second to consider returning any piece of hardware. Those problems I have experienced inevitably get fixed within different time frames.

But not be able to reliably use a trackpad mouse or keyboard is particularly severe and personally I have no doubt that they're doing the best they can to resolve the issue because it's not in their interest to do anything else. Easy for me to say I know.

Good luck.
