4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

I may have "fixed" the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. System Preferences/Bluetooth/Advanced...uncheck "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". The issue was happening all morning (and since I received the M1 Mac Mini) and has stopped since I unchecked the box. I am using a USB Keyboard, so that is how I will wake from sleep. So far, so good though.

I'm going to add another issue I have encountered and that is where everything freezes up. Mouse cursor moves but clicking on an object does nothing. Keyboard beeps (error beep sound) on key presses but no letters appear. The only way to regain control is to use the power switch. There are clearly a lot of bugs to be resolved for this new hardware.

I will be appreciated for any help.

That has been noted; in my case, File Vault has never been turned on, and I still have the same issues.

Also, installed RC2 last night, went to bed, and just started using the M1. Connect/Disconnect/Connect/Disconnect occurred almost immediately upon using the M1 Mac Mini.

So, in my case, RC2 had NO EFFECT on the issue. I've ordered both a Bluetooth 4 and Bluetooth 5 Asus dongle, will try those.

Have to admit, disappointed that although RC2 is/was supposed to address bluetooth issues, it still has not fixed the situation.

I have a late 2008 model 3.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 mini and have had this issue almost from new. Splashed out and got the grey magic keyboard and mouse. Very disappointing. Ive tried removing everything else from Bluetooth, resetting the module and all the usual things. I seems to happen less if I turn off WiFi but in the end I gave up and starting using an ugly wired mouse. I've been an Apple pro users since the mid 90s and feel a bit let down in recent years I must say.

So, I think we all agree that Apple's response to this issue has been appalling and that they continue to bury their head in the sand about this being a problem.

However, whilst we wait patiently for Apple to make some sort of announcement, can I ask a few questions about the potential Asus USB-BT400 dongle workaround solution (I have a Mac mini, Magic Mouse 2 and Keyboard and original Magic Trackpad - like others, the dropout on the Mouse and Keyboard is a lot worse than the Trackpad):

  1. Does the Asus dongle workaround actually work?
  2. Is the Bluetooth functionality the same as with the in-built Mac Bluetooth receiver (when it works!)?
  3. As I have already used my USB-A sockets, would the performance of the dongle be adversely affected in any way by using a 4-Port 2.0 USB Hub?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.
