4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

So in summary, all you need to do to fix the issue is place the Mac mini upside down, use wired accessories, disable Wi-Fi in your house and neighborhood, and don’t bring an iPhone or Apple Watch near it.

Purchased Mac mini m1, 16 gig ram, 2TB ssd. Since day one I had this problem. The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and apple keyboard with the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion. Today I have updated to the new OS and immediately noticed it lagging and I do had to get a job done so I switched back to my Logitech wired mouse and keyboard. When will Apple fix this or do I need to return it.

Big Slur 11.2 / Osx 14.4 and with my setup (M1 Mini): improved - but no cigar. Still getting BT drops when listening thru Airpods Pro connected to M1. Thank the heavens I went with wired Corsair hardware for KB/mouse, or I'd be sunk.

But in 11.1, music sounded like it was dragged across a chalkboard first, but in 11.2, music only breaks up for a millisecond every few minutes. Progress?

Note: the problem now only exists when the iPhone is sitting next to the M1 Mini, and with the phone's BT on.

I have upgraded to OS X 11.2, my iPhones are all updated as are my MacBooks and iPads along with Apple watches. I removed my ASUS BT 4 dongle and have been using my Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2. Last night while typing I encountered the delay phenomenon where nothing would appear for a few seconds and then suddenly a string of characters would appear. For now I resolved it by plugging in my keyboard to the USB port. I would say that they have not fixed the problem. Also, my Apple Watch will not unlock my M1. Those of you working on the next beta need to report these issues to Apple development. I haven't noticed any lag with the mouse except on initial movement. After that it seems to be ok, at least for now.

I have been running 11.2 for 2 1/2 days now and it is much improved. According to the logs, there have been 2 BT disconnects which did not occur in the drop-connect-drop-connect signature, but rather a single occurrence. Neither of these occurred while I was using the system and they both appear to have been the trackpad which I rarely use. I did have my iPhone in the vicinity of the mac mini at the time of these drops but cannot say for sure that is what caused it. Also I do not use the watch unlock feature so I am unable to comment on whether that works or not.

Overall I am pleased as now the system is completely usable for work. Sure there are some more bugs to fix, but after all this is first gen and I went into this knowing there might be some growing pains.

I got the same issue. called apple and asked me to test a few scenarios but solved nothing. Cannot find out the cause. I have the problem on both M1 Mac min and air. sometime, the BT will reconnect itself. but when it is unhappy, it refuses any connection, even declines manually click for connection. The BT still shows on, but all devices are grey out and cannot connect. Have to restart the machine but no guarantee, you may have to redo it all over again. My solution - return them; I find enough same complaints online but no actions/sulotions from apple, need to use a language apple can understand to communicate this issue.

My mini isn't Mac silicon yet, but the Asus dongle is still working fine. I've done all the device updates, all the Macs are on 11.2. When I unplug the Asus dongle I still get the odd issue but its way better. Its beyond my comprehension how such an issue can be fixed in software alone but it seems like that is the case. Wouldn't it be great if Apple "fessed up" when they release an update "We have fixed XY and Z and we are sorry for the inconvenience". My M1 MBA ,for example. I needed to slightly reduce the levels of security for an app which required holding down the power button to enter recovery mode. (CMD+R has worked for me since the late 90s but it doesn't work now). Before 11.2 holding the button didn't work. Now it does. Transparency is a fine thing Apple, give it a try

I'm running 11.3 Beta 1 now, and also, no trouble. I haven't upgraded to 14.5 Beta 1 on the iphone, as is this is a critical device for me and I don't usually like to run beta software on something I rely on for work on a daily basis. That being said, everything is still working, enough so that I am now considering purchasing a MacBook Pro later in the year when they announce the new ones (but I may splurge and purchase the current M1 MacBook Pro; they are very fast).

Hi All, I had also encountered this issue and turned devices off and back on had worked. Today, with 11.2, they wouldn't work. I did about 5 restarts. Then based on feedback in this forum, removed my iPhone from the scene. Finally, I connected the keyboard via Lightning/USB iPhone cable and that immediately connected it. I did that with the mouse, same result. A big pain but that was a quick workaround. One more backstory, I'm trying to replace a 2014 iMac with the M1 and Dell 42" USB-C monitor. I had forgotten the luxury of the built in screen and not worrying about communication gaps. Since I still have the iMac, I had disconnected from new Mac mini to use the iMac for something. I will always fully shut down each machine, so the keyboard / mouse, in theory, shouldn't be looking for them. But this lighting connection was the only workaround I found.

I believe the keyboard and mouse usually only connect to one machine at a time, and they were connected to your other Mac. The easiest way to fix this is exactly what you did. Now, they should work without the USB cable. The other way is, when they're already connected to one machine, use the Bluetooth menu bar icon to reset the keyboard and mouse. That should free them to connect to your new Mac the usual way. Glad you found an answer.

Artiste212,

Thank you. The goal was to put the iMac to pasture, but I haven't had the time to get everything off it so I had been just doing a full shutdown before trying to reconnect. I was also trying to avoid buying another keyboard / mouse, but I think I'll keep iMac as an "around the house" computer and just make sure each have dedicated components. I haven't seen the otherwise intermittent drops and don't have any major issues with bluetooth even on restarts - as I'm currently having to do for software upgrades and installs. Thanks!!
