MacBook Pro M1 2020 Printer Problems

MacBook Pro M1 2020 Printer Problems

I have two printers. A Canon Pixma Pro 9000MK2 photo printer and an HP Laserjet P1102W.

Neither of these printer will work with my new MacBook. I have tried every combination of USB cables, hubs, adaptors to run through the USB C ports on the new MacBook. The machine recognises the printers on adding in Printer preferences but goes into fault when I send a document either printer. I have removed and added multiple times and reset the printer system all to no avail.

Is anyone else having issues the same as these. These printers worked faultlessly on My MacBook Air 2014 running Catalina. Is the issue Big Sur I don't know what to do next.

Can anyone help. Thank you.

I was able to find the HP Color LaserJet MFP M277dw printer in the "Library" under "Printers". I right clicked and "get info" and checked the "Open using Rosetta" box and that actually fixed it to where it works as it did on my intel MacBook Pro before I migrated to the M1 MacBook Air,

Simple fix that I found here on the discussion forum. the even more interesting thing is that I have never seen that option available on the other intel apps that are running via rosetta. Only on this printers Get info!

Hi Everyone,

My Mac mini M1 connected to a USB Canon IP4950 printer does not load the driver also!

BUT I found a temporary solution - in my case a QNAP NAS! Connect the USB printer to the NAS,

allow USB printing in Control Panel (of the NAS) and it loads the relevant driver.

Back to the Mac, print and select what is the IP4950 printer with (AirPrint) beside the name.

I realise not everyone has a NAS but in case you do, this worked for me beautifully!

Cheers,

Roberto

On my Mac mini M1 I have successfully connected a Canon 743cdw (without downloading any drivers) by: 1- on my printer's interface joined my network, 2- on apple preferences, printer, add printer... my printer showed up (only when my printer did not go into sleep mode in 30 sec ), clicked on it (my printer), driver selection panel opened below, i chose "software", then chose "auto-select" (also a long list of printers comes up), AIRPRINT filled the box after selecting "auto select", used it and it worked. Hope this helps.

Apple isn't responsible for third party software or hardware, the third parties are.

Ultimately if Canon decides not to support M1 owners, those people will think poorly of Canon, not Apple.

Apple doesn't write or develop printer drivers, they simply pass on what vendors supply them with and are quite clear about that.

If you want to blame Apple, that's fine, but it's simply not their fault.

Not for nothing, but Canon had months to test their products with both Big Sur and M1 Macs prior to release and quite apparently, didn't care to.

As I have said previously I have two printers. A Canon Pixma Pro 9000MK2 photo printer and an HP LaserJet Pro P1102W.

No here is the really weird thing. On the 24th December I was trying yet again to get them to work.

So hard to believe after everything I had tried and failed the Canon printer suddenly started working.

Working completely - the full works, the full printer dialogue etc. etc..

Now I say it is weird because I have definitely not installed any OS updates, or tried any other printer drivers.

So to make it clear I am running a MacBook Pro M1 2020. The OS updated a couple of weeks ago when OS 11.1 installed about two weeks ago.

So I cant explain what has a changed. The HP LaserJet Pro P1102W still does not work.

I am read somewhere that the M1 and OS11 does background updates, I think could this explain the situation.

Needless to say I am happy that I have got an expensive printer working again.

Can anyone out there shed some light on this weird situation. M

It's not Apple's responsibility to make sure 3rd party hardware will be compatible with their new system. They put out a beta version of the system nearly a year before introducing to the public so developers could update their equipment, software and drivers.

All Apple is able to provide are drivers given to them by the manufacturers. So blame the developers for not getting compatible drivers to the pubic in a timely manner.
