Even though the Music App is using a fair amount of your machine’s CPU, CoolBuddy95R, there doesn’t appear to be any reason for high Energy use, on your system.

Simply look at the low CPU usage at the bottom of your image: 80% idle.

Can you Quit the Music App?

What does the Energy tab show, for All Processes?

What do you mean by saying your computer is “getting heated”? Is it truly HOT, or do you simply feel warm air coming out of the vents (pushed by the fan)?

You could run the Free Etrecheck - the handy reporting tool for isolating issues with your computer.

Following those instructions, you can grant it Full Drive Access, so it can give us all better diagnostics, and attach a plain-text version of its report to your reply.

Thank you, CoolBuddy95R.

Fortunately, unless your MacBook has a hardware issue (and, usually, even if you do) it will automatically shut itself down if it gets too hot for its circuits.

That doesn’t mean that your MacBook should be running hot, under normal circumstances.

It only means that your MacBook will protect itself from getting too hot for its circuits, unless something is truly wrong with the hardware. (Generally, if the hardware was so bad that it wouldn’t properly protect itself from heat damage, it wouldn’t be running Apps, either.)

When your MacBook gets hot, do you hear a fan running, inside it, or feel hot air coming out of your MacBook, somewhere. (MacBook Pros have a fan, if I remember correctly.)

Have you been running your MacBook Pro, 13”, without having installed any additional programs (Apps)?

Or have you installed additional programs (Apps)?

Just as with the heating and power issues using Big Sur, unless you have a hardware problem (we hope not!) the only way for your computer (MacBook) to run hot and use a lot of energy is for it to be running a program or programs that are causing your computer to work hard.

Try running Activity Monitor (Launchpad -> Other -> Activity Monitor):

  • Set the View to All Processes (I usually choose it with Hierarchically, so it shows sub-processes with their main processes).
  • Choose the CPU tab, and order the processes by % CPU, so the processes using the most are near the top.

Share with us what processes are using the highest % CPU.

You could also use the Energy tab, in Activity Monitor. It will default to “Applications in last 12 hours”.

See what it shows as the biggest Energy user.

You can also change the View, for the Energy tab, to All Processes.

Please let us know what you find using the most Energy, in either of these Views.

(Unfortunately, it seems like not all processes are “instrumented” for Energy usage, so the Energy tab may or may not show you the actual main Energy using process.)

I hope we can help you “track down” what is running, on your MacBook, that is causing it to get so hot.
