Music library not syncing

I cannot get my iCloud music library to sync to my new MacBook Pro (13 inch, 2020 M1 chip). I am an Apple Music subscriber and my internet connection is fine. Every time I try to hit the box that says sync library in music preferences, it loads for a while and then I receive this pop-up, even though my Internet connection was never lost:

I have tried deauthorizing and authorizing again, restarting, un-checking and checking that box again, all with no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I solved iCloud Sync issues. First: turn off Sync auto-downloads and second: stop and remove local Music copies. Apple support helped me to locate and delete 200 GB in two (2) useless copies of my own 80 GB personal music that I stock from iTunes Store, over the years and decades. You need Sync to manage playlists once download squirrel holes are plugged.

Music preferences are opened and we unselect 3 defaults to disable Apple's squirrel holes:

  1. Advanced › Add songs to Library when adding to playlists (important, uncheck this first)
  2. General › Automatic Downloads
  3. General › Always check for available downloads

Now use Apple Music Browse to drag and drop albums and songs into playlists. Those playlist selections will auto-sync.

There was a massive "genius results" outage that was just resolved.... well kinda. You can sync again but it seems that it's causing a lot of duplicate playlists and songs to show up for some (many?) people.

see the issue on the main page: Apple Music Sync Error: 'Genius results can’t be updated right now. The network connection was lost.'

By the way authorize is like falling into the squirrel hole. If you avoid that level of contamination (sorry Apple, we know the truth hurts and we know you just want to make our lives easier), then instead of bogus authorization (that I abandoned four months ago), you still get endless Doofus popups until you manage playlists and downloads as described above.
