Mac mini M1 - LG Ultrafine 5k display wake problems

Similar issue - when tapping space bar or clicking mouse the 5k won’t wake up. Interestingly, when I unplug my hub in the 2nd USB-C port the monitor woke up instantly. Also - I wasn’t having issues until I started using the hub. Mind you, I’m not using the hub for the monitor but they’re both plugged in at the same time. Hopefully it’s just a firmware issue and can be patched, and not an indicator that the hardware can’t handle a 5k monitor and hub at the same time!

Did you open a ticket with apple support? They are sending me an Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable to replace the one that came with the monitor and a new Mac mini. I upgraded to to 16 gigs of ram since I was getting a new computer.

I have precisely the same issue with my M1 Mac Mini and LG Ultrafine 5K. There is a significant loss of resolution when the Mini wakes from sleep, which is only fixed by rebooting the machine. Apple support can't diagnose the problem, let alone fix it, on two attempts. I paid £2,500 for this combo and am not happy!

I'm having a very similar problem. On sleep or reboot, my LG 5K falls back to 4096x2304, and I have to unplug/plug the monitor power cable to get my new M1 Mac Mini to recognize it as 5120x2880. (Although occasionally, it seems to be reporting the lower resolution even while displaying the correct resolution.) Ah, the joys of first-gen hardware!

It looks like this issue will be addressed in the upcoming MacOS 11.1 release

I thought I'd found a workaround, turning off all the sleep features, but then yesterday I found my computer would not respond when the screen saver was running - had to do a hard restart to get function back. So today I've turned of screen savers too. So far no freezes, but we'll see what it looks like after an overnight. I'm considering enrolling in the Beta program too - its been suggested that update 11.1 may address the issue!

I updated to 11.1 this morning and since then, have had no issues over sleep or screen savers. Both of my monitors are on, bright and clear. So far, so good!

I contacted AppleCare and was advised the issue is known to engineers. No ETA on a fix.

Sorry about the Typo in the above reply. The workaround is to Enable Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off - under System Preferences / Energy Saver.

This worked for me for awhile but it's now refusing to wake from sleep again, even with that box checked.

Same exact issue here too. Work around is to go to System Preference>Energy Saver>check prevent computer from sleeping after monitor shuts down. Works for me.

Same problem. Just discovered it. Hope Apple comes with a solution soon.
