Quick Actions with Fn key not visible in Big Sur

Hello,

I updated my MacBookPro (2017) to Big Sur. I've got in Preferences -> Keyboard -> option "Press and hold Fn key to: Show Quick Actions" checked, but actions are not visible. The only option to show actions in Touch Bar is to add "Quick Actions" button to Control Strip.

I'd like to still use Quick Actions on Touch Bar with Fn key like before.

Regards

Pawel

Hello lor3k,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. We understand that Quick Actions do not appear, when you press the Function key in macOS Big Sur. We'll be happy to help.

You can use Quick Actions in the Touch Bar of your Mac, which is outlined in the section of this article that says, "Set preferences for Quick Actions in the Touch Bar": Use Quick Action workflows on Mac

If these are the steps that are followed correctly, but Quick Actions is not working as expected, we suggest to reset the NVRAM (nonvolatile random-access memory): Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

Then test and see if you can use Quick Actions without any issue.

Kind regards.

Hi, were you able to find a solution to this? I've the same issue with my 2019 MBP 13". After updating to Big Sur, all of my quick actions vanished from the Touch Bar when pressing and holding the fn key. The quick actions, however, are accessible from the Quick Actions Touch Bar key, which is considerably less convenient.

At one point, the fn key did display the quick actions, but it stopped after I reset my computer the next day...

It would be nice if Apple Support could do something about this. Even a reply to a month-old question would be nice.

They hear us, but our voices are disregarded until the threshold number of voices is reached. Unfortunately, this issue relatively unimportant and therefore likely won't ever be resolved. I'm pleased with the workaround using the function keys, and I look forward to getting a MacBook without a Touch Bar. I'd rather have a physical function key than those on the Touch Bar, which is a gimmick that, evidently, is losing its fan base by not being adequately supported.

lor3k,

Thanks for getting back to us and for attempting a reset of the NVRAM. There are additional steps that may help.

The next step is to reset the the System Management Controller (SMC). This helps resolve certain issues related to power that may help. Here's an article with additional details and the proper steps to take: How to reset the SMC of your Mac

If that doesn't help, we suggest to restart your Mac in safe mode. This helps to perform a basic check of your startup disk, deletes some system caches and more: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Once you're in safe mode, please restart your Mac as normal and see if you continue to experience the same behavior.

Kind regards.
