M1 chip compatibility with Elgato

Can anyone tell me whether Camtasia, Elgato CamLink 4k and Logitech 922 are compatible with the new Mac Book Pro/Air....before I go buy one?

Thank you.

Any news on this Phil?

I am glad to see I am not alone with this issue...

I am running a setup consisting of:

Mac mini (M1) -> USB-A -> Elgato Game Capture HD60+ -> HDMI -> Panasonic GH5

Unfortunately when recording video in Quicktime it's kind of choppy.

Support of Elgato does not respond so far and I can not find a solution browsing the typical places.

Some user stated, he was having sufficient performance when connected to a CalDigit TS3+ Dock. He was suffering from complete drop outs of the stream, though. (Could be a different story)

Now it seems I have to check for myself.

I have ordered an Elgato Thunderbolt Dock Pro (only TB3 dock in stock with fast delivery) and an Elgato Calming 4k.

Lets see if I can circumvent the issue by using different USB Chipsets or a more widely used HDMI Caprute card.

Btw: Setup has been working fine (4k, 30fps) connected to iMac Pro.

Ah frustrating seems like The M1 is having bandwidth problems although my tests suggest there is nothing maxing out during video capture. I really question if Elgato do not see the problem although they do acknowledge that they know it exists.

I have a ClonerAlliance Flint 4kp (1080 capture) to test today. I will see if I can get dual capture working with the Camlink 4k and flint simultaneously.

I just tried this again to double check and mine does not work correctly. Yes I can capture at 3840 × 2160 29.97 (my Camera output) but when I step through the frames of the recording using the right arrow key I can see frames are missing when I wave at the camera.

In m case every 5th frame is missing and the 4th frame holds until the 6th.

Are you sure it is working?

Record yourself waving or other fast motion and step through the frames ot be sure it is not stuttering.

I did a quick USB data test using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test - reading an SSD gets and impressive 220 MB/s through USB 3. When I plug in the camera via camlink 4k the Black Magic Test drops down to 177 MB/s (write is unaffected at 190 MB/s)

So the Camlink 4k is using 40 - 45 MB/s maybe? This should not be a problem. hmmm why the dropped frames?

Although there are no vender drivers to install is there a software/hardware driver running in the camlink 4k itself?

I did some research and turns out that the 60S+ can in do 4K30 but only in OBS (possibly other apps, but that is not confirmed) and there are some limitations to 4K capture, but overall it is possible.

I had a 60S+ and never knew about the 4K feature eventually got rid of it as it constantly stopped working on me, I had to change USB ports until it connected again, sometimes it just would not connect at all... had the same problem with the 60S

Anyway le_jean259 can you confirm that you managed to get a 4K recording from QuickTime, if not, would you mind trying again in OBS and share the screenshot of your "Video Capture Device" settings. at this point, curiosity has gotten the best of me.

Thats kinda frustrating. Got my HD60S+ today. I have a CalDigit connected to my Mini M1 because I learned that I need a powered USB Hub for more than 1 Capture card (I have two).

With the CalDigit I have dropped frames avery 5th, 6th, 7nd frame or so. If I connect it directly, only after ever 20th 25th or so. But the CamLink4k is not far away from that. Need to do more testing on Monday but might return the HD60S+

Can I connect two of those directly to my Mac Mini M1?
