On a new M1 MacBook Pro 13, I'm getting network connection freezing up when connected to 5ghz wifi band (using a BT router). This happens after a while when under load, for example a large download or streaming. Switching to 2.4ghz band doesn't seem to be a problem, but speeds are slower. Tried switching channels on router and creating a new location in network preferences. Any thoughts or problem solving steps appreciated.

I had the same issue with my M1 MBP, and I finally managed to resolve it!
My router (ADB VV5823) was configured for 2.4GHz and 5GHz which appeared as the same SSID, and my router had "Band Steering" enabled.
** I split the 2 bands to have different SSIDs, which also disables "Band Steering".**
Now when I connect to one of the SSIDs, my M1 stays there and never drops the connection, whereas before it would drop at least once a day just as others have reported.
I don't know if disabling Band Steering alone would have solved the issue, but certainly using two distinct SSIDs has solved it. In fact, I've now realized I can do just fine with just the 5GHz band, and my M1 is rock solid on it.

Brand new MacBook Air M1 - unpacked today, got everything ready and updating to lates Big Sur - wondering why the update seems to get stuck and need restart several times... Now downloading Xcode I see why.
Absolutely disappointed. I am living in Germany and using a Fritz!Box 7530 AX with Wifi 6. All other devices incl. iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPad Pro working perfectly. Just this brand new Macbook.
We really need a solution here...
Yes Same here and I am seeing the same issue cropping up in lots of other fora. It certainly isn't network overcrowding, I live in a detached house with not other buildings or wifi anywhere near. I'm not getting the lock up of other apps just huge wifi outages which I don't experience on other devices. This especially occurs on things like long zoom calls. Tried a few fixes but longer uses still the same.

Sadly channel width is not configurable on my ISP supplied router. I did try this with a TP Link VR400 and found it made no difference to stability. As my ISP will only provide remote support with their own router installed I've reverted to theirs.
I have a brand new Netgear ORBI mesh wifi 6, it works beautifully on all my devices, except for my MBP M1.
It freezes twice a day a least, and I have to reconnect manually every time. MacOs 11.3 didn't solve the problem.
Apple, fix this issue please, don't ignore us.
No problem whatsoever here with my MBA M1 on Asus RT-AX88U router (wi-fi 6 enabled).
The connection is rock solid both on 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz band.
I'm using the Verizon FIOS G3100 router
I'm having exactly the same issue with M1 Air. When connected to a 5GHz router, the wifi connection is extremely poor or non-exist. Everything works fine when forced on a 2.4GHz router.
Just FYI, I have this same problem but my router is not wifi 6. It's a TP Link AC1750. 5GHz has issues while 2.4GHz seems to be ok.
I'm seeing the same (just had it for the second time since I got the device in December). I'm using WiFi 6 with WPA2/3-PSK - it's an Asus RT-AX88U router.
Same here, m1 MacBook Air and Asus rt-ax55u. Mine also freeze on 5ghz band (no problem on 2.4ghz)

I've tried it with 11.3 beta2 but the problems happens same.
After a couple of days trying, multiple large files downloaded, heavy internet traffic, etc... still no sign of the problem

I notice the same issue on a M1 MacBook Pro using 5Ghz Wi-Fi, whereas 2.4Ghz works perfectly. Other devices on the 5Ghz Wi-Fi don't have the issue...
