On a new M1 MacBook Pro 13, I'm getting network connection freezing up when connected to 5ghz wifi band (using a BT router). This happens after a while when under load, for example a large download or streaming. Switching to 2.4ghz band doesn't seem to be a problem, but speeds are slower. Tried switching channels on router and creating a new location in network preferences. Any thoughts or problem solving steps appreciated.

I had the same issue with my M1 MBP, and I finally managed to resolve it!
My router (ADB VV5823) was configured for 2.4GHz and 5GHz which appeared as the same SSID, and my router had "Band Steering" enabled.
** I split the 2 bands to have different SSIDs, which also disables "Band Steering".**
Now when I connect to one of the SSIDs, my M1 stays there and never drops the connection, whereas before it would drop at least once a day just as others have reported.
I don't know if disabling Band Steering alone would have solved the issue, but certainly using two distinct SSIDs has solved it. In fact, I've now realized I can do just fine with just the 5GHz band, and my M1 is rock solid on it.

I advise you to call back ΑppIe support to inform them that a reinstall of Big Sur can't fix a problem
which is brought by Big Sur ( there are many evidences of the origin of the problem ). This could only
give a very poor opinion on their knowledge of the problem and let them waste other customers time.
Both are damaging their image which is otherwise on a very high level.
I am convinced they will thank you for your feedback.
My dear friend I am using two MacBooks one pro 2016 and air m1, both are on the same Network 5gh when the m1 stuck the pro2016 never stop... so I don’t think it’s the spectrum range apple will never or any other maker care about the “spectrum” if we should replace equipment each time we buy laptop we shouldn’t buy it first place.

Apple TV 4K, Apple TV , mac mini, iphone 11, iPhone X, iPad 10.2..... al works fine but the spectrum makes problem to the Air m1???? (Two of them) my friend it’s not the WiFi I strongly believe it’s the Bigsure with the m1 something is just not write!
We see the same issues with MBA's and MBP's with M1 chips in my school, with enterprise wifi, as well as at home or in the car with in-car wifi, or OTA hotspot to an iPhone 11 Pro.
My symptoms included no being able to join my iPhone hotspot without using a cable (slowly got worse with each Big Sur update until it just refuses to connect), dropping my in-car hotspot unless I force the in-car router to only use 2.4, and my teachers complaining that their Google Meet's drop with wifi constantly, or AirPlay sessions drop randomly, yet a partner teacher with an Intel MBA right next to them in the same sessions are having zero problems.
I don't want to jinx things but things have settled a little since 11.1 dropped - I also made some adjustments to MTU size having read up some tips on this. I'm going to test a bit more and also revert to defaults to see if I can reproduce the original issue.
There is no dispute that this is a problem with the Apple-Silicon M1 running Big Sur.
What I was trying to suggest was that there may be work-arounds that could get your computer going again on your network, by making some subtle changes.
Some of these changes can only be made inside your Router. That does NOT mean your Router is defective or deficient in any way.

I, and a lot of people, are reporting the same problem with the new iPhone (12, 12 pro). It seem to be related with the new "wifi 6". Hope Apple gonna fix this...
just an update: after browsing forums...I see consistency with the M1 and the Broadcom BCM43684 chipset
I switched my wifi router to a Meraki MR52 without the BCM43684...no wifi issues so far

I have a similar issue with wifi freezing. It appears to be the M1 - I checked the M1 against an iMac on the same WiFi network in real time, and only the M1 stalls.
I’m curious, when this happens to you, does it pretty much lock up all apps and the you have to restart? I have experienced this the past few days. I’m just not sure if the place I was at was using 5ghz or not but I will check.
I have this issue too. I am using MacBook Air m1 and my router is Asus RT-AX3000. The wifi is stayed connected but actually no network traffic between MacBook and the router. I can't even connect to the router's configuration page when the issue happened. The issue only appears when you are downloading a large file. It can be reproduced very easily.
Have you seen any new issues?
My MacBook Air M1 2020 is having wifi issues also.
I have a ASUS RT-AC68U and I am Having horrible network problems. I should be getting very high network connections. My MacBook shows that I have a very stable connection but I am only getting 50mb download and 9mb upload.
Similar issues on my M1 MacBook Pro. Other devices test at 90-200 download, 60-100 upload (we have a 1 GB down, 100 MB upload internet plan, which is what our ethernet connections get). But often the speeds on my MBP are 0.1-5 download and about the same upload. I can't even stay on my home network as my connection to other computers keep getting dropped. Any advice on this would be most helpful.
