How to make a monitor with a DVI connector and a DVI to HDMI Cable work with a Mac Mini with an M1 Chip?
Just bought the new Mac Mini with the M1 Chip, 16 GB Ram and 1TB SSD and running Big Sur 11.0.0. I'm trying to use two, known to be good, working monitors that I own; Acer B236HL and Acer B193WL. Both monitors have DVI and VGA connectors but no HDMI connectors. I purchased a DVI to HDMI cable for one monitor and a second DVI to HDMI cable with a Belkin HDMI to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor for the other monitor. The Belkin adapter was purchased from Apple as the recommended adaptor for the Mac Mini.
The Acer B193WL monitor works fine using either the Thunderbolt 2 (with the adaptor) or the HDMI connection on the Mac Mini. The Acer B236HL does not display with either connection. I have tried to swap cables and the adaptor between both monitors and get the same results, where the B193WL works and the B236HL does not. The Displays Preferences recognizes both monitor and shows a display profile for each. Another added note is that the B236HL is a rotating vertical or horizontal monitor.
As an alternate test, I used my MacBook Pro (2012) with a ThunderBolt to HDMI adaptor and tested the DVI to HDMI cables with both monitors. Both monitors work fine. The rotation has always works with my MacBook Pro.
Looking for assistance on how to make both of these monitors work together. Perhaps there are setting on the B236HL that need to be adjusted to make things work. Perhaps it is a compatibility of HDMI 2 and the DVI standard, but I seriously doubt that as HDMI 2 is backward compatible with DVI.
