Dell U3011 resolution locked at 1920x1080

Hey all, I recently got a MacBook Pro 13" and I connected it to an external monitor, the Dell U3011. It's connected via DVI and the resolution is locked at 1920x1080. The monitors native resolution is 2560x1600. I get the full 2560x1600 when I boot into windows 10 but it goes back down to 1080p when I'm MacOS.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi,

For Apple OSX users, the resolution is hidden in the display options, you need to hold down the "option "key while changing the resolution, then the resolution 2560*1600 can be selected.

Or try to connect to monitor with USB-C to Dual Link DVI adapter which could help your question.

DVI displays wider than 1920 wide generally require special adapters and special cables, because DVI diverges at that width into two different setups, known as Dual Link DVI (for wider) and Single-link DVI (for up to 1920 wide).

The difference is the addition of three more twisted-pairs of conductors for color information. These are shown in the Wikipedia illustration below, and are the center six pins in the grid, medium blue in color:

Adapters and cable that do not have the center six pins cannot possibly support displays wider than 1920 wide. Some Single-link adapters and cables have those pins present, but they are not connected, and they also cannot support Dual-Link DVI.
