Java error command line tool install JDK

I loaded files for my new iMac from Time Machine and an old error reappeared "to use a java command line tool you need to install a JDK". I don't know which applications are using Java. I tried downloading Java 8 and that did not resolve the issue. I used the Apple link "Download Java for OS x 2015-001" and I cannot install Java 6 as the system states I have a new version of Java installed. I've tried uninstalling Java 8 but the uninstall tool says it cannot find Java.

Hello gfmcquaid,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand getting pop-ups regarding installing Java on your Mac, and we'd be happy to help.

The error is received because an installed application needs Java to run properly. To get started, let's try the following steps:

Try to remove the current Java installed on your Mac, restart your Mac, then download the following version:

Download Java for OS X 2017-001

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

Thank you for the reply. I've tried the uninstall Java tool from Oracle but it says its not able to launch on my new iMac. They suggest using Terminal and cut and past some commands to remove Java. Seems like a complicated process. I have tried downloading the OS X 2017-001 link but it says that I have a newer version of Java installed. I can't find the versions using Finder in my applications.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
