Long time to open from sleep

Hi,

My wife and I have separate log ins on my Mac (I am admin). If I come back to the Mac after she has used it and it has gone in to sleep, I tap space bar and her log in page appears. I click on "switch user".

From this point it takes about 9-10 minutes to get to where I can actually open a browser or app?

This just seems too long to me. Mac is a late 2015 model (bought in 2017)with 1Tb (around 356gGb free) hard drive and 8gb Ram. But my previous Mac was quicker (2011). The lengthy start has been since Catalina and now Big Sur. Any ideas would be welcome. Have Run Disk First aid but nothing found.

Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the reply. With regards to the "make sure you have enough disk space", I'm not sure What enough disk space is?.

See the screen grabs below which show I have approx 350Gb of free space which I assume must be enough. When opening up from sleep I have no apps launching as far as I am aware (no apps on dock are set to "open at log in" and looking in users no apps are set to launch there either. I have run Disk Utility First Aid on both the volumes shown below and no issues have been flagged up. The only comment of note was "Volume could not be unmounted. Using live mode". I have tried using the Activity monitor but as everything is running slow it doesn't open up until the whole system is ready. Any more advice would be welcome. Thank you.
