late 2009 27" iMac as second monitor for 2019 iMac
I have a great new 2019 3.6 GHz 8 -Core I9 27" iMac and my loyal late 2009 3.06 Ghz 27" iMac. I am attempting to use the 2009 as a second monitor for the 2019. The 2009 has a mini display port and the 2019 has:
- Four USB 3 ports (compatible with USB 2)
- Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for:
- DisplayPort
- Thunderbolt (up to 40Gb/s)
- USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s)
- Thunderbolt 2, HDMI, DVI, and VGA supported using adapters (sold separately)
I have reviewed a similar post suggesting a mini display port to USB-C adaptor will work for a MacBook Pro, but those adaptor all contain warnings such as "[compatible with] 2017/2018 iMac with USB-C (Not for 2019 iMac)".
If I can figure out if the cabling is possible, I can then turn to the issue of how to have side by side displays through this set up.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
