I was scrolling through tiktok at a low volume when my phone randomly made a loud cracking sound and then shut off. It almost sounded like an electrical short. Phone rebooted on its own and seems fine. Very strange for a brand new Apple iPhone 12....

This happened to me tonight and I contacted apple support and they told me to delete the app that the glitch happened in! Hope that helped :)
I started looking into this some more and honestly I’m more confused that before. I found dis on Reddit I quote “It’s probably a kernel panic. It can happen sometimes. Maybe once or twice a year. You should see something starting with “panic-full” under settings- privacy- analytics and improvements- analytics data. You should only be concerned if this happens multiple times per day.” I then tried finding it under this category but nothing out of the ordinary. This is just weird if not just straight up creepy but it seem to happen only with iPhone 12 and mostly if someone uses a social media app.
this happened to me too! A large crackle and then a few purples pixels sputtered across the screen and it froze and shut off. I thought it shorted out but I plugged it in and it seems fine but definitely very scary moment!
Happened to me 5 minutes ago on my 1 month old iPhone 12 mini.
The screen froze while web browsing, the frozen screen looked like one of those static you get on an old TV, accompanied by a loud crackling sound.
Never had this issue with my previous iPhone 8. Freaked me out to be honest, I've only been using it for a month!
I also faced this issue ! I already claim warranty and the Apple Authorities Service Centre said that they already change a new Rear System for me. I just get the phone yesterday (17/06/2021). But the problem still there, I play a video games then suddenly an electric sound come out then the screen become black again, the phone restart back after few second lol… Who already solve this issue? This just happened to me I’ve only had this new max pro 12 for a couple months. I was playing a game this electrical cracking noise then the screen went weird … the phone rebooted it seems fine now but this phone is too expensive to be having these issues especially when it’s brand new and I’m not even on it a lot. After this I’m afraid to even leave it on the charger unattended. Oh and do not know about anyone else but the chargers for this phone suck it already has a short in the cord so had to get a new one.
I was just playing a game on Apple 12 Mini. Multicolored confetti, along with haptic sounds, came suddenly, and then the phone restarted (got Apple logo). Seemed normal after that, but what was that?!
So what I've determined is we've all had exactly the same issue, no one knows what it is, and Apple hasn't replied here but I went ahead and did a support chat and here's what I got:

Exact same thing has just happened to my brand new week old 12Pro Max.
Turning on alarm, phone plugged in. Loud crackle and pop sounding like a power shortage, blue and lilac flashes of light. Phone turns off and restarts.
Not overheated. Absolutely terrifying. Will be taking this to a store tomorrow seeing that you’ve all had no response on this for over a year!
It just happened to me, sparkled on the screen, mostly toward the outside and restarted. Battery at 71%. 98% of original level. I have a case, so I didn't feel any shock. It was not plugged in.

just happened to me a minute ago. I was on FaceTime with my gf why charging my phone and I was just about to fall asleep when it cracked, purple and green screen glitched, and reboot. I’m guessing the problem has something to do with live-streaming type things. The only thing we can look forward to in this issue is Apple to take care of it.
The same thing just happened to me. Purple and black pixels all over the screen, a very concerning crackling sound blasting out the speakers, and then the phone shut off. Apple logo came up and the phone seemed to do a complete software reboot, as when I unlocked the phone, the widgets had to load back in properly. Happened after I closed Spotify and was on the home screen. Very worrying for a £1000 phone.
Mine did this too. I was on Snapchat the phone made a loud crackling almost like a firework noise then the had purple confetti like pieces flashing all over it. My phone restarted on its own and it now seems fine.
I reached out to Apple Support on Twitter and they responded quickly. They asked a few questions and told me if it happened again to let them know 🤷♀️ I encouraged them to read this forum….crazy they haven’t addressed it.
This also just happened to me (May 7, 2022). Browsing Facebook when I heard an electric/static cracking sound, the screen turned into purple pixels on the bottom half, and froze. After a minute it rebooted and is now working done, but definitely startled me for a bit!
